Mildred “Elaine” McMichael, age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on October 6, 1947, to Edwin and Irene McFarland Barnes in Louisville, where she spent her life surrounded by family and friends.
Elaine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who took great pride in caring for her family. A dedicated homemaker, she poured her heart into creating a warm and loving home. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond people—she had a deep love for animals as well. She also found great pride in the time she spent working as a secretary for the Jefferson County Police department prior to meeting Eddie and moving to Crestwood.
Though a little shy in her younger years, Elaine was known for her kind heart, laid-back nature, and wonderful sense of humor. She loved to laugh, “cut up,” and bring joy to those around her. Many fondly remembered how much she resembled Dolly Parton in her youth—a comparison she always took with a smile.
In her spare time, Elaine enjoyed simple pleasures: playing Pogo games on her computer, gathering with loved ones for card games like Pass the Trash, and relaxing while watching her favorite shows, Dancing with the Stars and America’s Got Talent. Music brought her great joy, especially the songs of Barry Manilow, Engelbert Humperdinck, and the Bee Gees.
Elaine’s kindness, laughter, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
Elaine is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Edward McMichael; and her parents, Edwin Barnes and Irene Barnes Jeffrey.
Left to cherish her memory, Elaine is survived by her daughter, Stacy “Renee” Akridge; grandson, Nicolas Akridge; and a cousin, Karen Fincel.
A funeral service for Mrs. Elaine McMichael will be held at 12 PM on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens East Funeral Home, 11601 Ballardsville Road, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will begin at 11 AM at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens East will follow the funeral service.
