Born in Bassar, Togo, on January 1, 1947, to Nabine Bougonou and Ali Adga, Wapondi lived a life full of love, dedication, and unwavering support for her family. She is fondly remembered as the beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who nurtured her children with values of love, devotion, ethics, and morals in both Lomé (Togo) and Lewiston, Maine, USA.
As a talented tailor and successful cosmetic sales marketer, Wapondi demonstrated remarkable entrepreneurship by building her business from the ground up. Beyond her professional endeavors, she found joy in spending time with her family and caring for her community, always eager to lend a helping hand.
Her loving spirit is carried on by her family and step children: Deo Koumou Nete, Sankou Liebe Koumou-Nete, Nonko Didi Koumou-Nete, Assama Jean-Pierre Koumou-Nete, Kayissan Rosalyne Koumou-Nete, and Tchotcho Koumou-Nete, Daniel Koumou-Nete and David Koumou-Nete.She was blessed with numerous grandchildren: Debora, Kezia, Nikel, Odette, Flora, Naomi, Sam, Thierry, Avery, Noah, Jermaine, Adriana, and Levy, as well as a great-grandson, Augustine, Florence and Elhie.
In addition to her immediate family, Wapondi is survived by her brother, Brahima Bougonou Nabine. Her legacy of compassion, strength, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Wapondi's journey touched the lives of many, and her memory will continue to inspire a life well-lived, full of kindness and devotion. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and community forever.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine Street, Lewiston, with a Liturgy of the Word Service to follow at 11:00 AM. Committal prayers and burial will take place afterward at St. Peter's Cemetery, 217 Switzerland Road, Lewiston.
