Been 19 long years since the tragic passing, and about 22-23 years since saw you last, back in Beijing. Though it was for a brief period, you made an everlasting impression. Thinking of you much.

March 15, 2023

Hi Zeynep,
Though we studied together briefly back in Beijing of 2000, every year this time I recall our times together, be it after class or clubbing in the weekend.
Knew you briefly but you left an impression.
Always in my thoughts...
Udi,
Israel.

Though I knew her only briefly from our studies in Beijing, I have not forgotten her and every March I think of her. 16 years have passed already and I can still recall our good time in China. I light a candle for her here in Israel every year.

Dear Mr and Mrs Barnes,

I knew Zeyno well for a year while both of us lived in Beijing. We celebrated New Year 2003 together here in my town of London. I have only spoken with her a couple of times since then. Friendships at long-distance are hard to maintain and one always thinks that one can send an email tomorrow. I am sorry that this is not now possible. Zeyno was a wonderful free spirited person who brightened the lives of those she met. We will all miss her. May her spirt be remebered and held as an example by those that knew her, so that although she can no longer be with us her spirit may reside in our hearts.

Dear Barnes Family:

I had the pleasure of having lunch with David and Zeynep. It was easy to recognize that she was Dave's kid because she had the same good humor and nice disposition. I struggle to find the right words of comfort and I just can't. Just know that I am always here for you!

I miss you, Zeyno. I just went through some pictures of new years 2004 at the yp in wormleysburg. I wanted to post some but we looked so silly I knew you'd be mad :) I love you and miss you lots!

Dear Crystal,

One of the best memories (there are many) I have of Zeyno does not actually include her. I remember in 8th grade you and I were managing the high school girls soccer team, and we were watching them practice. We were asking each other all those 'what if' questions and you asked me "If you could be like anyone on the team, who would you want to be like? I answered Zeyno. I asked you the same question, and your response was the same, too. Even at 14 we knew she was amazing.

I know this is such a difficult time for you, David, and Vahide. You all are in my thoughts and prayers everyday. Please know that I'm here for whatever you need. I loved Zeyno and I will miss her very much.

Zeynep is 2nd from the left...we were happy to have her for 25 years.

Zeynep was one-of-a-kind who's passing will be a loss to everyone she knew...some significantly more than others. This picture is from a dinner for her 25th birthday.

I would think that in some language Zeynep means potential. I trained and worked with Zeynep at Commerce Bank. I know her to be extremely intelligent and well rounded. Her experiences abroad coupled with her professional interests made her fascinating.

April 10, 2006

I shall never forget the excited way Zeynep looked at life, the lunches we shared with her Dad, her visits to the office and Dave and Vahide's obvious pride and interest in their daughters. Those shall always be especially inspirational for me. Her tragedy touches us all very deeply and I find strange comfort from those I wish I could more adequately comfort: the brave and noble statements of her family. I'm so sorry!

April 4, 2006

Dave, Vahide & Crystal,

We remember Zeno as a vibrant, beautiful young lady. We have fond memories of her growing up in Camp Hill. We hope you find some comfort in knowing many share in some way the loss of such a special person.

Zeyno's voice sang. "Hi Mrs. Socolow!" is what I hear vividly --the many times she called for Samantha when they were growing up together and later when they were home on college breaks. My memories go way back -- to Mrs. Wortley's Ballet Class in 1985 -- so earnest! And later making a huge wonderful mess with holiday cookies, or being goofy while cooking eggs, or laughing and watching movies, it seemed Zeyno and Samantha were always beside each other, sharing their lives like sisters. I miss her like my own daughter and will devote a garden full of sunflowers to her. When I think of Zeyno, I think of the warm bright sun that brought music into our home.

Barnes Family:

I was in shock when I heard about Zeyno, in fact, I still am. Even though we had not seen or spoken to each other in awhile, until recently, I feel a void in my life knowing that someone as special as her is gone so soon. We played soccer together when we were younger, for the Lower Dauphin Goalin' Girls. I feel very fortunate to have played with her - she always had a huge smile on her face, and was one of the sweetest people I have ever met. I have such fond memories of her. Please know that your family has been in my thoughts and prayers since this tragic accident occured. She will be missed...

March 30, 2006

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Barnes and Crystal - I just learned of Zeyno's death and am shocked and saddened. Zeyno was a student of mine at CH and I always enjoyed her quick mind and clever wit. You raised a wonderful young woman and she, as evidenced from the many messages, touched many lives in such a positive way. Though I know these words can be of little comfort, may the many thoughts and prayers of others help to ameliorate and sustain you in these difficult times. And may the many memories you have of Zeyno bring serenity to you. With sincere sympathy,

Barnes Family & Friends,

I was very lucky to get to know Zeyno for too short a while at Skidmore. She stood out for her style, smile, & genuine nature. All of the people and loving words on these pages are a tremendous testament to her spirit, and yet represent only a fraction of those touched by Zeyno's rich life. She will be remembered.

Dear Barnes Family,

It is with great sorrow I learned today of Zeyno's passing. I worked in the CHHS office when she was a high school student and remember her - always with a smile. I also remember sharing stories of motherhood with you, Vahide, and looking forward to your visits when you picked the girls up for appointments. We lost our son, Billy, in 2002, just before his junior year. I am well aware of the feelings surrounding you and all of those to come. Please count on me to help you in any way I can. I will contact you soon. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Barnes Family,

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Zeyno was always a good friend to me throughout high school. We were in Chorus together, and she was always so much fun. She was a great source of wisdom beyond her years. I was always impressed with her integrity and love for people. It is obvious how many people's lives she touched. Crystal, my deepest prayers are with you as well. I also lost my oldest sister a few years ago and please know that it will be hard at first, but with time you will see how much she is still around you in everything you do. If there is one thing to take away from all this, it is to know that she was well loved by the many people she touched in her life.

My family and I are praying for you at this time.

Thank you for being a wonderful sister to my Crystal and a wonderful daughter to two of the best parents I have come to know...be at peace Zeyno but know you will be missed...
