Elizabeth Shelor Obituary

Elizabeth "Bonnie" Hardy Blanton Shelor

February 17, 1944 - August 11, 2025

Elizabeth "Bonnie" Hardy Blanton Shelor, 81, of Richmond, Va., departed this life on August 11, 2025.

A graduate of St. Catherine's School, Bonnie continued her education at Chatham College, VCU School of Fine Arts, and the Corcoran Art Gallery in Washington, D.C.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her sweet husband, Joseph Badger Shelor; and her brother, Charles A. Blanton, III.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer Shelor Glenn (Eric), Wiley Shelor Hunnicutt (Allan) and Natalie Shelor Sinclair; her grandchildren, Joseph Matthew Malone (Brianna), James Austin Malone, Robert Isaac Hunnicutt, II, Lily Elizabeth Hunnicutt, Marco Sinclair and Madeline Eliza Sinclair; and one great grandchild, Carter Rayne Malone.

She was a long time resident of both Alexandria and Richmond, Virginia. During her time in Alexandria, Bonnie and Joe provided a home away from home for many of Joe's students at Episcopal High School.

A prolific artist in her own right, Bonnie was also accomplished in fine art restoration. Not only was she known for her creative talent, love of flowers, and all things beautiful, Bonnie was a fierce advocate for her children and grand children and loved them all deeply.

In the eleven years since the passing of her beloved Joe, Bonnie was a rock for her daughters and grandchildren. Friends and family remember Bonnie as a feisty, independent woman whose sense of humor kept people on their toes. She relished cooking and eating delicious meals, swimming, watching tennis, laughing with friends, and calling her stockbroker on a daily basis. Some have said that she would have made a great hedge fund manager. She died on her brother's birthday under a rainbow sky.

Services are private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for you to plant your own beautiful flowers in memory of Bonnie, and to consider a donation to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
