He was great colleague. He had a great pedigree. PhD with Sir Derek Barton at Imperial College in London and a Post Doc with Professor Robert Woodward at Harvard. Both were Nobel Prize winners. Jim's research area was Biosynthesis. How nature makes molecules. As a young faculty member I remember a house party at Jim's house in North Philadelphia. We had a choice light or music The electrical system was overloaded.

I met Jim through Connie, years ago, at a house party. They seemed to be in love. Thirty years later, theywere still deeply in love, with a mutual admiration and respect. Jim was an honorable man. I was impressed by his intellect and his humble nature. He was a very quiet, polite, and unassuming man, but those who knew him could tell how bright and talented he really was. Jim was an amazing singer/guitarist, who enjoyed singing traditional folk songs with Connie. He was an integral part of the Philly Folksong Society and the 1st Friday Sing group. Mt heart aches for Connie and her children. May Jim's memory brighten your days. He will be missed.

I have many fond memories of working in his lab in the late 80's and early 90's. I hope he appreciated the fact that there is another generation of chemists because of him. He will be missed.

I mostly remember Jim and Connie from staying with them in a cabin at the Spring and maybe Fall flings. Their devotion to musical standards and Jim's accompaniment were great fun for me. And watching them cooperate on small chores was heartwarming. My recollection of Jim is that, other than when he sang, he was pretty quiet.
My heart goes out to Connie and Jim's family.

Jim was a great friend and down the hall neighbor during the 37 1/2 years we worked together at Temple. I'll always remember the good times we shared.

Over the many years that Jim and I worked together, his warm sense of humor, great patience, and steadfast hand helped me keep my sanity. My world is poorer for his passing.
