Corey DEAN Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Apr. 3 to Apr. 8, 2018.
DEAN, Corey Michael
April 10, 1955 – March 27, 2018
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Corey Dean on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Corey passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side: his wife Patti, sons Adam and Kit, his brother Scott and father Harry. Corey was born and raised in Richmond, BC where he attended elementary and high school and completed his education at UBC where he received his B.Comm. in 1979 and his LL.B. in 1980. Corey started his career at Clark, Wilson and in 1986 he joined DuMoulin Black. Family, work and sports are what defined Corey. He could complete a deal at work, get to a student-led conference for one of the boys and make a hockey or baseball practice in the same day. More important than what he could accomplish in a day is how proud Corey was of his sons. Adam and Kit will carry their Dad in their hearts forever as they now navigate life without him. Corey was passionate about his career and took such joy in the challenges of practicing corporate law, working with clients and lawyers and last but not least being a part of the DuMoulin Black family. Sports were a huge part of his life too. Growing up he played baseball, hockey, golf, enjoyed waterskiing, cycling and was an avid skier. As a dad, he coached both Adam and Kit in baseball and hockey and enjoyed playing golf and skiing with the boys at Whistler. Corey was humble, kind and generous. "There are no words" to describe how much Corey will be missed by Patti and family and friends. Survived by his high school sweetheart Patti, sons Adam (Tracy), Kit (Julia), granddaughter Kaylee, brother Scott (Patricia), father Harry and numerous cousins, nieces, aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, donations to Pancreatic Research at BC Cancer Agency are appreciated. A celebration of life will be held at Quilchena Golf and Country Club on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Many thanks to the extraordinary outpouring of support from family, friends, Spul'u'kwuks Elementary School and DuMoulin Black throughout Corey's journey. Special thanks to Dr. Renouf and the clinical trial team at BC Cancer Agency.

I just attended a 50th reunion of Blundell Elementary grade 7 class of 1968. I was hoping to meet the smartest, most congenial member of that class, and was hoping to catch up on the last 47 years since I last saw him. I'm so sad to hear of his passing just last month and offer my deeply felt condolences to you, his family.
Love,
John de Putter (250-337-5908)

I knew Corey both as a client of his and a friend since he joined DuMoulin Black and he provided me with a good sounding board, keeping me grounded and being there to talk with me during my times of need. Patti, my wife Jessica and I recall with great fondness and happiness the time that we spent with you and Corey in Las Vegas on the closing of yet another transaction that Corey worked on with the Company and we want to express our profound sadness on his passing to you and Kit and Adam. Please take heart in the fact that we had him in our lives and with us and know that we will all see him again.

Dear Patti and Family
My sincerest condolences to you and all of your family. Corey and I go back close to 50 years and will always have the months bumping around Europe together and more late nights than I can remember. I/we have many memories and I hope that you can relish in all the elements of life that you guys accomplished.
We will be away for Corey's celebration of life but you will be in Karen's and mine thoughts. Roger Lemire

Corey - what a great guy - I can go back to Blundell School and our friendship shared through sports, and remember playing hockey on his big wide driveway (alongside the Crawford's) then at Palmer, we played with a great fun rivalry every day at lunch in the Chess Club - haha, we laughed at being nerdy ... and then hockey occasionally in mens hockey, and coaching together for a year or two, plus the times setting up RHS grad reunions ... Corey, The smartest regular guy ever! A true quality man who married a sweetie from Richmond High. Patti, my heartfelt condolences - I cannot attend the Celebration of his life, as I am out of town that day ... Bless you.

I golfed with Corey in the early 90,s at Quilchena. It was great fun and we had a match every weekend...he hit a great ball, but sometimes I beat him on the short game. He was a fine man, and I enjoyed his company. It is sad that he is gone so soon.

My always looked forward to weekly Sunday game with Corey was this year interrupted by winter travel. This past fall season, seeing Corey's promising healthy signs, we were all so hopeful and looking forward to a Spring resumption of the golf routine. Always a great pleasure to play with, quietly communicating his decency and kindness, Corey was the best sort of golf partner. I knew him really only on the course, but over 10 seasons of golf there his brains, his humour and his class were fully revealed. Corey will be bloody well missed. Many condolences.

Mr. Dean was one of the nicest members at the Quilchena Golf and Country Club.

I started working there in 2012, and he was the first member who formally introduced himself to me. Will never forget his class and professionalism.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Hello Patti and Dean Family

I knew Corey over the past 12 years as a regular golf partner at Quilchena and I feel as if I have known him forever. In between missing and making golf shots, we had great conversations together about all aspects of life and he spoke so highly of you, his sons and his father. Corey was a true gentleman, committed to his work and family but always great to be with. We had many laughs and good moments together which I will deeply miss. I touched on only a fraction of Corey's life, but I know what a deep well he was and I am so sorry for your family's loss.

Dear Patti, Adam and Kit and Dean family. Far too short but a life well lived with his high school sweetheart, precious sons and family. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time....regards from Wendy, Corey, Vicky Wilkie and Eleanor Rook.

Patti

We are so sorry to hear about Corey. I have so many fond memories of him from Law School. It is a long time ago - but it seems like just yesterday that we were sitting in the Pit enjoying a beverage. A true gentleman and friend. I didn't see much of him over the past 37 years with us living in Kamloops but he has a place in our hearts. We will miss you Dino.

I was so sorry to hear about Corey. He was always early to Wednesday AM Hamberger Hockey, and we would have nice 'chats' before the rest of the guys started to arrive.
