The Same Billy

Place: Billy Micciulli's house

Time: Weekend

Game: Beer pong

Any excuse for getting together with his high school buddies was occasion enough for William E. Micciulli to pull out all the stops. Like the brand-new Ping-Pong table he bought for a barbecue at his house in Old Bridge, N.J., last July so he and the guys could play beer pong, using their own rules to get the ball into a cup of beer. Winner drinks up.

Mr. Micciulli, 30, was a very successful Wall Streeter. He was a partner at Cantor Fitzgerald — one of the youngest, in fact — but he never told his buddies that. To them he was the same Billy Micciulli.

"All of Billy's friends knew how much he cherished them," said his wife, Colleen.

Although Mr. Micciulli had been a domineering right-handed pitcher from Little League through college, his sports focus shifted to fantasy football. On Sept. 10, he and his father painted the Ping-Pong table his favorite colors — Dallas Cowboys blue and silver — for the coming weekend bash that would kick off the fantasy football season.

The party was canceled; the table put away. Finally, after about six months had gone by, Michael Kucher, a friend, moved the table to his own house for his son's birthday, and the first game of beer pong without Mr. Micciulli. "We tried not to bring up too much stuff while we were playing, because we didn't want to make it too heavy for Colleen," Mr. Kucher said. "It was great, but none of us could really look at the table without thinking of Billy."

William Micciulli, 30, loved them Cowboys William Micciulli was such a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he recently decorated his Ping-Pong table using the team's blue and silver colors.

The enthusiasm Mr. Micciulli demonstrated for sports spread to other interests in his life. "He enjoyed everything. Whatever he picked, he went into 100 percent," said Mr. Micciulli's sister, Andrea Madonna.

Mr. Micciulli, 30, and his wife, Colleen, moved to Old Bridge three years ago, following his sisters, Andrea Madonna and Joanne Los Kamp, who were already raising their families in the town.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Sept. 11, Mr. Micciulli phoned his wife from his 104th floor office in One World Trade Center to talk about the menu for a party they planned for the following Sunday, opening day of professional football.

"He had the Direct TV football package. He was in a fantasy football league," his wife said.

Mr. Micciulli ended their phone call, saying he had to get back to work, his wife said. Mr. Micciulli was a partner and senior vice president of international equities for Cantor Fitzgerald.

"He loved being with his family and friends," said Los Kamp. "He was a funny guy. He enjoyed life."

Mr. Micciulli was the father of 2-year-old Emily and 10-month old Sara.

Andrea Madonna said her brother "simply loved to laugh."

Mr. Micciulli, who was born in Brooklyn, played Little League and high school baseball while growing up on Staten Island, where the family moved when he was young.

He continued playing baseball at Fairfield University in Connecticut. He went on to earn a master's degree in business administration from St. John's University in Queens, N.Y.

Although Mr. Micciulli "hung up his (baseball) glove after college," said Colleen Micciulli, he remained active in sports as a member of the Glenwood Country Club in Old Bridge and the Jersey Shore Runners Club. He participated in charity races throughout the state.

Often he would jog in the evening after work. "He'd get in to work early so he could get home at a decent hour," Los Kamp said.

Earlier this year Mr. Micciulli's parents, William and Joan Micciulli, and his maternal grandmother, Jacqueline Carmellino, moved to Manalapan to be closer to the three siblings.

"We were always very close," Madonna said. She recalled her brother giving his nephews tips on baseball. "He would stop by a park and start a pickup game with kids," she said.

I never got to meet you, but you are my cousin regardless. It's been 9 years. I was 10 years old then, but I'll never forget the instant pain i felt when I seen a Micciulli on that list. And to Will and all of our family, including other families effected by that day,

My thoughts and prayers are with Bill's family today. Even as time goes by I find it hard to accept that someone as good as Bill is gone. I feel honored to have known him and will always remember his unique and amazing sense of humor with a smile.

Today marks the second year since 9-11-01. I think about you often and remember what a great guy you are. I saw your photo on TV today at the remembrance ceremonies. My heart goes out to Colleen and your children. I remembered today the time we were at the Choir Loft on the night before Christmas Eve. It was so cold and we were bored. We got in the car and drove to the city to see the Christmas tree at Rockerfeller Center. I remember it like it was yesterday. Regina, Dan and Dana were with us. Regina found photos of us at that outside bar on the West Side Highway. It is so strange to look at the photo that was taken many years ago just miles up the street from where the Trade Center stood. I also found photos of you from a New Year's Eve party in college. You had a big smile on your face as you always did. I continue to pray for you and your family.

God Bless

I was a friend & classmate of Billy's in junior high and high school. Unfortunately, with the exception of running into each other a handful of times over the college years, we fell out of touch, and I subsequently moved from NY. We shared a common fanaticism for the Dallas Cowboys, and I can't watch a game anymore without thinking of Billy. He was a great guy. I printed out the tribute page from this site and taped it on my office wall at work to provide a daily reminder of why we must continue to work towards eradicating terrorism. I know of at least five people who lost their lives that morning, with Billy being the closest connection. Bill, your entire family has been, and will continue to be, in my prayers. God bless.

Billy,

I remember when we were in junior high together. You had those pinchable cheeks and that infectious smile. You weren't the typical boy. You had a kindness and sweetness that still resonates with me today.

I remember you in high school when you started dating Colleen. There was a conversation between Jennifer Maida and myself - we were agreeing on how obvious your love for her was.

I was in downtown Manhattan today, sitting at my desk waiting to hear your name read at the memorial ceremony, but it won't take an anniversary or a ceremony to remind me. You, no doubt, are intertwined in the spirits of everyone you ever had contact with. The loss is great but the memories are greater.

And to you Colleen...my heart broke for you when I found out about Billy. But I remember the stuff you're made of and the family you come from, and know that you will find whatever way you can to keep living. I'm so very sorry for the suffering of someone as wonderful as you. I want to offer the perfect words but I know they don't exist. Just know that you're in my thoughts and that I won't stop remembering.

Billy-

You always had a way of making us smile...and I'm sure that hasn't changed. You were one of the kindest, funniest people we ever had the pleasure of working with. Kenny and I both miss you but you are in our hearts and we will never forget you.

Sometimes we can't understand why but we just have to believe. Keep them laughing up there!!

To the members of Billy's family, I am deeply saddened by your loss. I came across a website www.unitedinmemory.net that is doing a tribute to all of those who lost their lives on 9/11. A huge quilt will be made, and a square for each person is being made. I chose Billy as someone that I wanted to do a square for. I never knew him, but after reading about him, and making the square, I feel that I know him in my heart. I have taken a picture of the square, and once I have it developed, I will post it on here for all to see. Please feel free to contact me.

May God Bless each and everyone of you.

Deepest Sympathy,

Dear Big Bill,

Although thoughts, feelings, and emotions are essentially what makes us human, expressing them is often one of life's toughest tasks. However, a vehicle such as this tribute enables us to say some things that do not flow so freely from the tongue.

One of the first attributes we noticed about you in intermediate and high school was your commitment to being successful. Whether learning, studying, practicing athletics, or making friends, you succeeded because your intentions were solid and genuine. Even as we grew into men, your inner drive and individuality shown like a beacon to the rest of us. We will never let go of what your friendship meant to us: respect, care, humor, and love.

FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS...

Love and God's Blessings,

The S.I. Boys

To the family of William Micciulli,

One of my famous quotes is "God works in mysterious ways". Yesterday while shopping in Roosevelt Field (after not having gone for quite a few months) I went into Contempo Casuals. There I met a young lady and we started to chat. As we went on I later learned about her brother who worked for Cantor Fitz. She too learned I had a brother-in-law Steven Russell Firefighter from Engine co. #55 who also died in the Trade Center Attack. Immediately I knew we shared each others grief. For some reason I feel it was not just chance that we should meet. Perhaps our brothers had met or just to let the family know we all share this awful tradegy and we will never forget. My family sends its condolences to yours.

Regardless, from the beginning of this horrible tragedy I have been trying to fiqure it out...I am still not sure if we had ever met...but I would like to express my sincere condolences to Colleen and the rest of his family. I just wanted to say that my prayers are with you.

My Deepest Sympathy Goes out to the Micciulli family. I learned of the loss of Billy here in Fla weeks after the horrible events. I was a grade school friend of Billy and was deeply saddened to hear of his loss. Regretfully, when my family moved to Florida I lost contact with Billy. I was very pleased to see how succesful he had become and I knew that his charisma in grade school would follow the man he became. I cant express in words how sorry I am to all of you for your loss. May god be with you. Jeremy Nygren

We are very sorry for your loss of William. May his life and love live on through his family members and all who were touched by his life. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Billy was a class beneath me at Fairfield U. and I had the wonderful honor of playing baseball with him for 3 years. He was also my roommate when we traveled on the road. Billy always kept me, along with everyone else, laughing and loose. I can't believe that your gone but I am sure of one thing, you got everything out of every day on this earth. My prayers to your family, they deserve much more. God Bless and you are always in my thoughts.

Billy was one of the finest young men I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He was always the first on the floor at 6:30am and had a genuine quality, a desire to learn (especially in markets that moved quickly)and was a good guy. He would offer to help everyone. A rare quality on a desk. I'll miss you Bill. God bless you. You'll live on in my memory.

I first met Billy in 1993 when I joined Cantor Fitzgerald. We went to class together for our Series 7 license. I left the firm in 1994 to go to work at Garban Intercapital in 2 WTC, but I would call Billy from time to time to stay in touch. He was one of the nicest young men I ever met in this business. I last spoke to him in June of 2000, but thought of him often. I'll miss you, friend. No matter how busy you were at work, you always took a minute to say hello and ask how things were. I share in the grief of the Micciulli family. Billy was a great guy, rest assured. Be with God, my friend.
