Madeline C. Day was born 3/4/1917 in Albion N.Y. to parents William Hiram Long and Marie Bell Long (Blumer). Madeline was an outstanding student growing up and was valedictorian of her high school. Madeline attended secretarial business school post high school prior to working as a secretary in the Syracuse, NY area. Madeline was married to George S. Day on 5/28/1949 in Syracuse N.Y. Madeline and her family lived briefly in Melrose, Ma. but raised their 4 children, in Rochester N.Y. She and husband George were residents of Spanish Lakes Riverfront in Port Saint Lucie for 24 years. Madeline had an active mind her entire life. She was an avid reader, loved to bird watch, work crossword puzzles and played bridge. Madeline was a fantastic mother, humble and unpretentious, but with an innate sense of right and wrong and the gumption to stand up for what she considered just and fair. She was residing at Horizon Bay assisted living at the time of her passing. Madeline was preceded in death by her husband George S. Day, and sole sibling Kenneth Long also of Port St. Lucie. Surviving children (& spouses) are Richard(& Patricia) Day of Katy, Tx, Douglas(&Betty) Day and David(&Imelda) Day of Rochester N.Y, and Dorothy(&Evans) Travis of Melrose, Ma. Madeline also has 14 grand-children and one great grandchild. There will be a memorial gathering from 2 to 4 p.m. June 30th at Forest Hills Funeral Homes – Byrd, Young & Prill Chapel in Port Saint Lucie. Internment will be private at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth where she will join her husband of 58 years George S. Day.
