Marilyn F. (Gauthier) Shaw 87, of Franklin, died peacefully Thursday August 29, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her family, following a long illness. She was the wife of the late David E. Shaw who died in 1960. Born December 13, 1925 in Boston, a daughter of the late Harry H. and Frances C. (Connell) Gauthier, she was a longtime Franklin resident and was a former resident of Allston. She was raised and educated in Allston, and attended St. Anthony's School. Marilyn was a retired homemaker. She was a devoted mother, who raised her children following the loss of her husband at a young age. Marilyn enjoyed gardening, all animals, reading, cooking, holding family gatherings and rooted for all the Boston sports teams. She was very outgoing, a real people person, and was always ready to engage in a political conversation. Marilyn is survived by her children; Diane Friend and her husband Dana, Lynn Shaw and partner Edward J. Lang, Jr. and Patty Shaw-Mullaney and her husband Bernie Mullaney Jr., all of Franklin, a brother John H. Gauthier of Braintree, and a devoted friend and caregiver Sue Borozny of Woonsocket. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Terri Seymour and her husband John, Mark Friend and his wife Amy, Rachael Friend, Micaela Hersee, Amanda & James Mullaney, and her great grandchildren Jaimie & Zachery Seymour, & Timothy, Lily, and Penny Friend and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late David E. Shaw, James E. Shaw and sister of the late Eleanor M. Gauthier. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Tues. Sept. 3rd, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, with a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church 1 Church Sq. at 10AM. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Brighton. Calling hours are Monday Sept. 2nd, from 5-8PM. My heart is sad for you as you mourn the lost of your mom, grandmother, aunt, and good friend. I know that it is difficult, I hope that you will find comfort in the wonderful memories that you created with her including the joy that you bought to each other. She will be forever in your heart.
