BARBARA B. BLACKBURN (nee Byrnes), age 88, passed away October 24, 2014. Daughter of and preceded in death by James and May Byrnes and sister, Ellen Byrnes. After graduating from DeVilbiss High School in Toledo, Barb attended Miami University (Ohio), class of 1948, joined Alpha Omega Phi sorority and met her beloved husband Stan (deceased 2011.) During their 62 years of marriage, they raised five children: Douglas (Lisbeth Stubbs), Eric (Karen Lucek), David (Sally Cooper), James (Catherine Amon), and Ellen (Karen Casler) in Parma. She was active in the community as a Republican Precinct Committee woman, a substitute teacher in Parma School District, community president at Shurmer Place in Strongsville, and a member of St. Joseph's choir. She and Stan enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and Europe, making new friends, and loving their eleven grandchildren: Kevin (Sddita), Scott (Kim), Steven, Gregory, Zachary, Michael, Kelly, Erin (Garrett), Hayley, Jillian and Shannon (Kyle.) In 2013, Barb welcomed great granddaughter Rylee Blackburn into her heart. Visitation at Busch Funeral Home, Friday, October 31st, 4:00 – 8:00pm, 7501 Ridge Rd., Parma, 440-842�7800. www.buschcares.com. Funeral Mass on Saturday, November 1, 12:30pm at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 16271 Pearl Rd., Strongsville. PLEASE GATHER DIRECTLY AT CHURCH. Inurnment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Immediate family only please. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Cleveland Chapter/Alzheimer's Assoc., www.alz.org/cleveland

Aunt Barb was always mysterious to me. I think I was caught off guard by the way she animated herself. Once I realized that she was pure sweetness and light and laughs, I wished I were closer to that part of my family.
