Norman R. Swicker

Norman R. Swicker, 82, of Franklin, died peacefully, Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Franklin Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Reilly) Curran of Franklin, and the late Margaret H. (Campbell) Swicker, who died in 2000. Born in Worcester, August 24, 1932, a son of the late G. Russell and Elsie J. (Shaw) Swicker, he was raised and educated in Worcester, and is a graduate of Fitchburg University. He was a retired educator and worked as an industrial arts instructor at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional Vocational School. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He attained the rank of Private First Class, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in June 1956. He enjoyed working with oak wood. He ran a business specializing in the restoration of antique oak furniture. He was a member of the Retired Educators Association of America, and attended the Franklin Federated Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are his son: Peter R. Swicker and his partner Denise Salmon of Bellingham, a daughter: Lynne-Ann Shepherd of Scottsdale, AZ, 2 stepsons: John J. Curran and Michael Curran both of Franklin, 2 stepdaughters: Judith Curran of Franklin, and Eileen J. Johnson of Thousand Oaks, CA. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren. He is also the brother of the late Stephen Swicker and Ann French. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral, Friday, July 17th at 11AM in the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage Street. Interment with military honors will follow in the family lot in Union Street Cemetery, Franklin.
