Esther Thelma (Malmberg) Eastman, age 96, died peacefully in Oregon on June 30, 2016. Esther was born at her parents' Stanbridge St. farm on Oct 15, 1919, the second child of William Albert Malmberg and Isabella Wilson (Coull) Malmberg. She graduated from Norristown H.S. in 1937, earning a varsity letter in tennis. After over 30 years of marriage, Esther was predeceased by her husband, Coast Guard Lieutenant Marriot Gibson Eastman (NHS '33). In addition to working as a legal secretary, Esther enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, beekeeping, traveling, being an active member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Audubon, and, of course, tirelessly devoting herself to both her immediate and extended family. In addition to her husband, Esther was predeceased by her parents, her son Robert Eastman (NHS '62), and her grandson Michael Labosh (PVHS '88). She is survived by sister Isabella (Malmberg) Mersereau of San Diego, CA (NHS '36), brother Karlson (Helen) Malmberg of Bally, PA, daughter Margaret (Eastman) Labosh of Collegeville, PA, son John (Charlene) Eastman of Salem, OR, granddaughter Rachel (McMichael) Newby of Pottstown, PA, granddaughter Wendylynn Labosh, grandsons Lyle (Angela) Gilbert of Monmouth, OR and Brian (Breann) Gilbert of Salem, OR, great-granddaughters Avery, Hannah, and Alexandra, two nieces, three nephews, and their families. A memorial service celebrating Esther's life will be held at 11 am on Fri., Sept 9, 2016 at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 2725 Egypt Rd., Audubon, PA 19403. Interment will be immediately afterwards at Riverside Cemetery, 200 Montgomery Ave., West Norriton, PA 19403 to be followed by luncheon at St. Andrew's Church. In lieu of flowers, Esther would be pleased to know that you remembered her if you wish to make a contribution to one of the following: St. Andrew's Lutheran Church (altar fund) (addr. above); The Montgomery County Beekeepers' Association (MCBA) PO Box 903, Skippack, PA 19474; American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org ; or The National Federation of the Blind of Pennsylvania, 1500 Walnut St., Suite 200, Philadelphia, PA 19102.
