I just want to share my condolences to friends and family of Mr. Englund. I never met him but I got a sense of the type of man he was through his writing. I came to admire him and his ability to write. He was a talented and interesting man who cared about people and dogs, too. I would have liked to have been his friend.

George was a very generous man. He was animated, funny, and so intelligent. He passed those traits along to George Jr as well. George Sr often spent time at the Palm Springs Stroke Recovery Center (aka the Neuro Vitality Center) telling such interesting tales about his life. My husband was a stroke victim and all of us there so appreciated his visits. George Jr volunteered his time there on many occasions also. Even though he was a very busy man with his own career, he was faithful to help whenever he could. We all admired how the family maintained such respect and love for each other and Cloris Leachman performed her one person show for us to the delight of all.Such a talent!!! George had a little dog that he adored and used to bring her to the talks. He will always live on in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched. He will truly be missed.

George would come here to the Stroke Recovery Center (now called the Neuro Vitality Center) and run the discussion group with our clients once or twice monthly. He did this for about 3 or 4 years and everyone here loved him and loved hearing all of his stories. He always walked in the room with a big smile and a wonderful attitude. We will all miss him. Blessings to his family.

In 1960 my mother and aunt, Polly Bleavins and Laura Williams, were domestic workers for Mr Englund and his wonderful mother. One day I went to work with my aunt. I was washing Mrs Englund car when George drove up. Although my hands were sudsy, he grabbed my hand and shook with vigor. That made me feel special. When he learned that I was graduating from middle school, he instructed my mom to take me to a mens clothing store on Whilshire Boulevard where he had an account. I was to pick out any suit I wanted. I have never forgotten that act of kindness and all the others bestowed on family by George, wife Cloris. And mother Mabel Albertson.

We knew George through Frances Bowes. We found him very bright, inquisitive, and witty. Great company, all in all. End of an era...

I just found out of George's passing and while we had not kept in touch for quite awhile I must say it was a stab right in the heart. I regret those who have not had the pleasure of his BRILLIANT company and friendship. He is one of the most unique individuals I have ever met. As a filmaker he was ahead of his time in choice of material . George was a Renaissance Man - had he lived then there would be books and plays written about him . We shared many personal experiences and he understood so much - words trivialise his importance to me in my career - MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY HE LOVED SO MUCH - George understood loss and always approached life with the utmost dignity - If I was asked for one word to describe him it would be NOBILITY in all things - Thank You George my life was richer knowing you
