William Emanuel Bendix (1935-2025).
Bill Bendix, 90, of Scottsdale died Thursday November 28th, 2025 in Scottsdale, AZ. Born on February 24th, 1935 in Los Angeles, CA, Bill is remembered for his devotion to his wife, family and his successful career as a business executive.
Bill grew up in Southern California and attended LA High School where he was class president. He went on to UCLA, graduating with honors with a degree in Engineering in the ROTC program. He married Joyce upon graduation and then they started their married life in Panama City, Florida where Bill served as a Lieutenant in the Navy from 1957-1960. He then attended Harvard Business School where he graduated with distinction in 1962.
He found early success in the management consulting business. In 1969 he accepted the position as VP of Manufacturing for Clayton Mark, a manufacturing business in Evanston IL. He moved his family from Woodland Hills, CA to Wilmette, IL. He stayed with Clayton Mark, eventually Mark Controls, and served as CEO until 1994. He served as Chairman of Valve Manufactures of America, he served as Chairman of Joslyn Corporation, he then continued to serve on the boards of Sargent-Welsh Scientific Company, and several other community and charitable organizations. He and Joyce split their time between Glencoe, IL and Scottsdale AZ until eventually moving to Arizona full time in 2021.
Bill loved playing golf at Skokie Country Club and Desert Forest, he loved good jokes, bridge, and mostly his friends and family. His past business associates and friends claim he was "one of the best". He dealt with all situations, family and work, with integrity, kindness, and tact. He will be remembered for his gentle demeanor yet strong principles.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Joyce McCune Bendix; his brother Don Bendix; his 3 children Bruce Bendix (Peyton), Louise van Vonno (Nicolaas), and Linda Heck. He leaves behind 6 grandchildren; Will Bendix, Jamie Bendix, Marty Heck, Brian Heck, Allison Steen, Emily Steen, and 2 great grand children. He is predeceased by his parents, Emanuel S. Bendix, Katharine Rinkle, and Peter Heck, his son-in-law who proudly shared his Norwegian Heritage.
A private service will be held at a later date.
