Mr. Robert G. Foster, 85, of Gloucester passed on Thursday afternoon, October 5, 2017 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House with his family at his side. He was the loving husband of Joan M. (Holley) Foster with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Robert was born August 23, 1932 in Gloucester. Son of the late Larkin G. "Ben" and Anna (Amero) Foster. He was a resident of Gloucester for most of his life. He and Joan moved to Springhill, Florida in 1987 and returned to Gloucester in 1992. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School Class of 1950. He served in the United States Army as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War and held the rank of Private First Class. Robert worked for Sudbay Motors for over 30 years until his retirement. He began his career at Sudbay's as a mechanic and later became Service Manager until he started working in Sales. After retiring Bob worked at CAPS parts store. Robert's true passion was his family, house and yard. He was very meticulous about how his yard looked. He was a true gentleman with a strong work ethic. He will be remembered for his wonderful personality and you always knew where you stood with Bob. He was a person who would always tell you what was on his mind. He will always be remembered as a true family man and a great mechanic. In addition to his loving wife Joan, Robert is survived by his five children Barbara A. Silva and her husband Leroy of Rockport, Robert P. Foster, Dianne M. Corliss, Lawrence C. Foster and John G. Foster all of Gloucester. His loving grandchildren Matt Silva, Katelyn Trickett and her husband Ryan, Sean Cunningham and his wife Phyllis, Jamie Anderson and her husband Scott, Benjamin Elwell and his fiancé Shannon Toohey, Brianna Burns and Lauren Foster. His cherished great grandchildren Calleigh, Lilyanna and Alannah Trickett, Jace and Marley Mac Cunningham. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son in law Wayne D. Corliss, brother Donald Foster and sister Barbara Paradis. Robert's Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish in St. Ann's Church Pleasant St. Gloucester on Wednesday morning October 11, 2017 at 9:30 AM. There will be a collation immediately following Mass in the Monsignor Sullivan Hall at St. Ann's Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. There will be no visiting hours. Burial in Calvary Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in Robert's memory may be made to Holy Family Parish 74 Pleasant St. Gloucester, MA 01930 or the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 75 Sylvan St. Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
