Samuel Otero, 70 of New Haven died peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Maria Melendez Otero. Sam was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico on July 31, 1947, a son of the late Julio and Rosa Gonzalez Otero, and had resided in New Haven for forty years. He was a mechanic and manager at the former Marone's Auto Body of New Haven for more than twenty years, retiring in 2008. Sam was a member of the Coamo Social Club and the Pietro Mica Club, and a parishioner of St. Anthony Church of New Haven. He is also survived by one daughter, Ilsa Otero-Resto and her husband José Resto, Jr. of New Haven, two sons, Samuel "Sammy" Otero, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Bristol, and Juan Manuel Otero and his wife Monica Rincón of Clermont, FL, eight grandchildren, Adam, Eric, Julian and Rafael Otero, Nollysha Canteen, Jailene and José Resto, III, and Luigi Greco, and one great grandson Elijah Noel Canteen. He was predeceased by one sister, Ada Velma Otero, and one brother, Julio David Otero. Sam's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, February 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Everyone is invited to go directly to St. Anthony Church, 70 Washington Ave., New Haven Thursday, February 22nd at 6:00 p.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial.
