Louise Piltz Gartenberg, 84, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Carl William Gartenberg, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, June 6, 2018. Her Funeral Service will be held Sunday, June 10, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street at 11:00 a.m., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Burial services will be Monday, June 11, 2018 in Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC at 10:00 a.m. Louise was born October 23, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of Jack Piltz and Ethel Ruthazer Piltz. She was a graduate of James Monroe High School in Bronx, NY, and attended Queens College in New York and Trident Technical College. Louise was a retired legal assistant. She enjoyed volunteering which included reading to the children in the Charleston County School system and for the Sherman House. Louise was a member of the Charleston Jewish Community Center Senior Advisory Board Member, Charleston Jewish Federation, and former member of ACLU. She is survived by her son, Jess Michael Gartenberg of Charleston, SC; daughter, Beth Joanne Faucette of Greenville, SC; grandson, Jack Lawrence Gutkin of Greer, SC; sister-in-law, Lorraine Solow of Lynbrook, NY; brother-in-law, Joseph Gamby of Granite Falls, NC; nephews, nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews, and one great-grand niece and nephew. Louise was predeceased by a sister, Marlene Gamby. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Merkel Cell Cancer Research at www.merkelcell.org/join-the-fight/donate.
