To Marty's family,
I only got to meet Marty once as the 8th grade football team gathered together for a Sunday service at Hope church after thier undefeated football season for the Cityside 8th grade football team. And yet the pastor of that church spoke about Marty in such a way I felt like I got to know him a little bit more. My son Christopher is friends with Austin as they played together on the football team and attend Cityside Middle school together. While I hurt for his daughter, wife and other family members I ache for Austin at the loss of his father. I read a post he made on his phone that Christopher (my son) showed me on how Austin was honoring his Dad. It was more then touching Austin.
You see at an early age I too lost my father (not as young as 14 but still young) and I remember oh too well the effect it had on me of losing an incredible man, wonderful father and mentor in my Dad.
My words to you Austin would be to know there is no time table for your grief. My Dad has been gone now for 34 years and it still hurts. One of the reasons is becasue he was at every one of my own football and baseball games...faithfully. Just like your Dad. He never coached me but he always encouraged me and supported me in every way he could. And from what I have heard your Dad was all that and more. Over time Austin (I wish I could tell you when that will be but I can't) it will begin to get easier. And yet that is not written anywhere so whatever you timeframe is will be just what it needs to be.
Christopher values your friendship and just know we will be at a service whenever that day comes in the future. But we are with you now praying for you and your family. We do rejoice in knowing that he Knew Christ and is with him now in heaven.

Lil Mart is my cousin and growing up, was one of my first friends. His sister and I were the same age and my brother and he were the same age. We had a lot of great memories as kids and I'll always remember Marty as a sweet affectionate little kid with perma-grin. He was always smiling. I hope Marty is having a great time in heaven, probably coaching teams up there as well. There's an outpouring of love from my heart to Rachel, Austin, Leah, Uncle Marty, Aunt Jane, and Missy.
