Boylston- Roland J. Ledoux, 87, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side. Roland was born on October 29, 1933, son to Juliette A. (Bourassa) and George H. Ledoux, in Worcester. He served in the military, and worked at Dosco Sheet Metal in Millbury, Massachusetts, while raising a family in Boylston with his wife, Geraldine. After retirement, he spent his time as an avid woodcarver while teaching classes at his home. Roland spent most of his life with his beloved Gerry in their home on Clark Street, which never really felt quite big enough to house Roland and everything he loved. It was here he gave his sons a childhood that included backyard ice skating rinks and family parties; it was here he always made sure to pass down a good sense of right and wrong to his children. He taught his sons and grandchildren to never lose their youth or humor, and this was often evident during the holidays, when he was buying the largest Christmas tree on the lot. On Easter, this meant taking a saw to the top knob of his deck railing to make the ultimate hiding spot for his great grandchildren's egg hunt. Roland had his favorite spots in his beloved home: at the many family gatherings, you could often find him in his familiar chair (you were in trouble if you ever tried to sit there), with his caramels and his Dunkin Donuts cup. You could also find him in his garage/workshop, where he took blocks of wood and turned them into soaring eagles, herding elephants and watching owls. The years he spent woodcarving in the garage, country music playing in the background, produced his award winning carvings and inspired many students to also capture the spirit of nature through carving. Roland enjoyed working in the yard, caring for his fish pond and watching the world go by from his wooden swing, with Gerry next to him. He enjoyed their travels together, driving up the coast to Nova Scotia, or spending quiet summer evenings at Dean Park, but nothing like how he treasured his time at home with his family, and thanks to Gerry's endless support, he was able to spend his last days on Clark Street, in his simple home having grown immense with memories, with her by his side. He leaves many behind that love and will miss him dearly, including his loving wife of 64 years, Geraldine (Sauer); his children, Kevin Ledoux and his wife Patricia, of Sterling, and Keith Ledoux of Boylston; his grandchildren Paul Wagner, of Boylston, Leann Ledoux, her husband Bryan Koza, and their children Noah, Page, and Levi, of Worcester. He also leaves behind his twin sister, Rolande Ledoux of Worcester, and sister Yvette Prosser, also of Worcester. He was predeceased by siblings Paul, Jeannette, Rita, Claire, Arthur, and Cecile. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 14 at 11:00am at Pine Grove Cemetery in Boylston. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE CEMETERY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Inc, 69 Grove Street, Worcester MA 01609, or to the American Diabetes Association @ www.diabetesresearch.org.

For 8 years, Thursday mornings learning to carve birds under the tutelage of Rollie was such an enjoyable time for which I am so grateful. When I first started in Rollie’s classes, I never thought I would be able to carve a bird, but with his guidance and patience he showed me the way. Rollie’s carving accomplishments have been an inspiration to me. I always think of him when I’m carving, so his memory will always be with me. Gerry, it has been my honor to know you and Rollie.

My memories will forever be filled with the times we all shared. All the good laughs we had and his love for the holidays he passed along his love of decorating to me. I couldn't wait for him to see my house all decorated for the holidays. I will cherish the carvings I have and will always remember his face and how proud he was to show you his already fished carving or the one he was working on . Thanks for being you. Rest in piece.
