Alan Hirsch Cohen

Alan Hirsch Cohen entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 13, 2021. His funeral service will be held at the graveside on Thursday, November 18, 2021 in the Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Cemetery, Huguenin Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.Alan was born December 25, 1933 in Louisville, Kentucky, son of the late Benjamin Cohen and Dora Winer Cohen. He attended Louisville schools and graduated from Male High School. Alan attended Indiana University, University of Nebraska and University of Louisville. He proudly served in the United States Army and spent 19 months of his two year service in Bremerhaven, Germany.In 1965, when he married his wife Rosemary "Binky", he got a ready made family which included two young children, Nathan and Sally Wilensky. Later he and Binky were blessed with their daughter Julie.Alan first worked as a manufacturer's representative and then as an insurance salesman. He loved sports, basketball, baseball, football and especially tennis. A highlight of his life was when he attended several red carpet luncheons and met Dizzy Dean and Mickey Mantle.Alan was a member of Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Temple and the Hebrew Benevolent Society.The family wishes to thank The Veterans Victory House of Walterboro and Patriot Hospice for their professional and loving care during Alan's four year residency.Alan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Binky; his three children: Julie Cohen, Nathan Wilensky (Pam) and Sally W. Magdovitz; four grandchildren: Andrew Magdovitz (Marissa), Dina Magdovitz (Sean Lear), Abigail Wilensky (Matthew Allen) and Leah Wilensky (Andrea Robles) and two great-grandchildren, Rocky and Barrett Magdovitz. In addition, nephews: Keith Cohen, Rick Cohen (Delane), Bruce Cohen; niece Carol Cohen (Mary Loring) and his cousin and best friend, Lynn Gold (Rita). He was predeceased by his brother Robert J. Cohen.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim, 90 Hasell St., Charleston, SC 29401 or to the charity of one's choice.
