Gary Moore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sproles Family Funeral Home - New Castle on Mar. 30, 2026.
Gary Don Moore, 76, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly at his home Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Gary was born January 10, 1950, in New Castle, Indiana, the son of the late John and Elfriede (Swartze) Moore.

Gary attended New Castle Chrysler High School and went on to work as a machine operator for Dana Perfect Circle in Richmond, Indiana, from which he later retired.

Before suffering a stroke in 2005, Gary enjoyed riding his Harley, bowling, working on cars, fishing, playing poker, and watching professional wrestling. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.

In more recent years, Gary could often be found attending his great-grandchildren's ball games, relaxing on his front porch, watching his favorite westerns (at a ridiculously high volume), or enjoying game nights with family and friends.

Gary met the love of his life, Judy, at church when they were teenagers. They shared 37 years of marriage before her passing in 2003.

He was survived by his four children, John Moore of New Castle, Tammy (Punchy) Moore of New Castle, Misty (Chad) Dale of Hagerstown, and Donald Moore of Eaton, Ohio; his siblings, William "Jr." (Sheila) Moore and Debby (Rick) Dunham; his grandkids, Jimmy (Joy) Guffey of Portland, Michigan, Kailei (Zach) Dale of Hagerstown, Nik Bush of New Castle, Paige (Cory) Pietig of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Brandon (Courtney) Arnett, Lacee (Trent) Weiss, Noah (Makynna) Dale, and Meghan Dale, all of Hagerstown; and his great grandkids, Emma, Jaylenn, Bentley, Hallie, Jackson, Ezra, Jacob, Emanie, Eden, Marlee, Ace, Mia and Storie. As well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Moore, his younger brother, Kevin Moore, and nephew Steven Byers.

A funeral service will be held at Sproles Family Funeral Home Friday, April 3, 2026 at 12:00 noon. Friends may call from 11:00 am to the time of the service. Burial will follow at South Mound West Lawn Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Pastor Jimmy Guffey.

Gary will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his laughter, his stories, and the way he brought his family together. His presence filled every room, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
