Alex Collins (1994–2023), running back for the Seahawks, Ravens

by Eric San Juan

Alex Collins was a former running back for the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens whose interest in Irish step dancing drew social media attention.

Alex Collins’ legacy

Collins was a star athlete at South Plantation High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, lettering in four sports, being named Broward County Player of the Year, leading his team to a district title, and being selected to the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.

After graduation, he played for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, where he was named 2013 SEC Freshman of the Year and led the team to wins in the Texas Bowl and Liberty Bowl. He was named MVP of the latter.

Collins signed with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, playing there for two years before signing with the Baltimore Ravens. He led the team in rushing in 2017. Collins then returned to the Seahawks for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. In 2017, he made headlines after crediting his interest in Irish step dance as helping his game. Videos of him dancing with 11-time world champion Zoe Talbot in Dublin made the rounds on social media and briefly made him an online sensation.
