Ron Masak (1936–2022), Sheriff Metzger on “Murder, She Wrote”

Ron Masak was a longtime character actor probably best known for his role as Sheriff Metzger on the TV series “Murder, She Wrote.”  

Character Actor   

Ron Masak was a Chicago native who began acting in college and then in the Army. He appeared on an early episode of “The Twilight Zone” and made many TV guest appearances on shows including “The Monkees,” “Bewitched,” “I Dream of Jeanie,” and “Barney Miller.” In the 1980s, he was the voice of the stork in the popular Vlasic pickles commercials. On the big screen, he appeared in “Benchwarmers,” “Harper Valley P.T.A.,” and “Ice Station Zebra.” He is probably best known for his role on “Murder, She Wrote” as Sheriff Metzger. Tom Bosley played the local sheriff for the first 4 seasons and left to star in “Father Dowling Mysteries,” with Masak playing a new sheriff in town for the series last 7 seasons.
