Professional hockey career
After playing for several years on junior teams, Cave made his professional debut with the AHL’s Providence Bruins in 2014. In 2017, he was called up to the NHL on an emergency basis to play a single game with the Boston Bruins, then became a part of the team in 2018. In 2019, Cave joined the Edmonton Oilers and played two seasons with them while also playing for the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors. Cave made news in 2019 when he knocked out Stockton Heat forward Martin Pospisil during an in-game fight. That’s not so unusual in hockey, but Cave’s follow-up was — he texted Pospisil to check in on the younger player. Pospisil shared their text exchange in a viral tweet.
