Wright beganher careersinging back-up for Ray Charles and the Righteous Brothers. She released a single in the 1960s under the stage name Sandy Wynns.Wrightformed the R&B girl group Honey Cone in 1969 with Carolyn Willis and Shelly Clark. The grouphit No. 1 with the 1971funk/R&B song “Want Ads,” knocking the Rolling Stones' “Brown Sugar” from the top spot.Honey Conebrokeup in 1973 and Wright would go on to sing back-up for many bands and artists including U2, Cher, and Aaron Neville.Wright was the younger sister of popular singer Darlene Love.
