John Tomczak Obituary
John V. Tomczak, age 79, of Lockport, passed away peacefully, Sunday March 5, 2017 at Silver Cross Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Chicago, living in Lockport for 21 years. John was a retired Chemist; a 14 year retired Navy Veteran and 16 year retired Air Force Veteran; served on the USS SHANGRI-LA during the Vietnam War; a Flight Engineer with the United States Air Force and flew on the KC-135 airplanes. Member of the Lockport American Legion John Olson Post #18 and the Lockport VFW Post #5788. John was an international traveler, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen (Szechowiak) Tomczak.
Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Helen (Krawczyk); his children, Gloria (Nasser) Diab, John (Cathy) Tomczak and Mark (Shirlee) Tomczak; five grandchildren, Corey, Jeannine, McCade, Carley and Jordan and his faithful companion, Mandy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad or TLC Animal Shelter would be appreciated.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 10:00am in the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel, 1105 E. 9th (159th) St. Lockport, Il 60441 with Military Chaplain Virgil Oikion officiating. Per John's family's wishes, cremation rites will be respectfully addressed following funeral services. Visitation Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in the funeral home chapel from 3:00pm until 8:00pm.
