Pieper, George R.
83, of Surprise, AZ, was born in La Crosse, WI, February 2, 1928, son of Chester, President of Iron Products Corporation, and Elisabeth Pieper. He attended Kemper School in Booneville. MO and served honorably in the US Army in Louisiana and Japan directly after WWII. He earned the Bachelor of Arts degree from Illinois College, Jacksonville, Ill, Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri's School of Medicine at Columbia and graduated with the MD degree from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, followed by post graduate training in Internal Medicine and Hematology at the University of California, Los Angeles Hospital where after practicing medicine in West Los Angeles, was appointed UCLA Associate Hospital Director. Subsequently, he served as founding Hospital Director and Chief of Medicine at hospitals in Tabuk and Jeddah, Saudia Arabia. Dr. Pieper was Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles and contributed scientific papers to various medical journals. In later life his interests included volunteering at the Del Webb Hospital Library in Sun City West, AZ, tended his collection of bonsai and writing fiction, publishing several original pieces in literary magazines, He was involved in several art and literary organizations. Dr. Pieper was predeceased by his parents, his identical twin brother, Arthur; wife Maxine; their daughter, Amy; and wife Katie. He is survived by son, David (Laury), of Reseda, CA and daughter, Christine Pieper-Sather (Brad) of Hollandale, WI; granddaughters Alexie Pieper, CA, Ariane Paskovitch (Roey),Tel Aviv, Israel, Katie and Mackenzie Sather, WI; his wife of 19 years, Sheryl; daughters by marriage, Kim Smith (Michael Abbott), of Chandler, AZ and Elayne Keown, of Maple Grove, MN; son by marriage, Jeffrey Frank (Tamara); granddaughter by marriage, Kayla Zamarippa and grandson by marriage, Ethan, Morrison, CO; granddaughter by marriage, Megan Smith, Chandler, AZ; mother-in-law by marriage, Arlene McLarnan, Surprise, AZ; brothers-in-law by marriage, Dale (Linda) McLarnan and MIchael (Elaine)McLarnan, WI; nieces and nephews and their children, IA, CA, KY, WI. No formal services are planned. Burial will be at the cemetery in Santa Barbara, CA. As in life, George passed with dignity in spite of the effects of Alzheimer's Disease. Books and libraries were his special love. Donations may be made to the Tolleson Woman's Club P.O. Box 485, Tolleson, AZ 85353 [(501(c)(3)] for distribution to the Tolleson Public Library and Senior Center where he and Sheryl met in 1991.
