Memories

August 9, 2012

I am so sorry to hear this. I took workshops with Diane. She was an amazing teacher, artist and person. She will be missed. I have one of her painting aprons and I always think of her and her squirrel brushes when I paint.

To Diane's family,
We are friends of Diane's brother, Mike and his family, through the First Baptist Church in Boerne. Please know we are praying comfort for your family in the loss of your loved one.
To us Diane's art was a well kept secret! I can see that her heart reflects the heart of God through her art. I'm only sorry that we never had the opportunity to meet such a beautiful person. Rob & Kathy Bozsan

Maxey, Rob, and Dana,

Here is the article I wrote for the AWA Newsletter. I was limited by space and there was much more I wanted to say. One of the most prominent characteristics of Diane's sunlit paintings was her fascination with light. It was the light of spring, and I feel it was also the ethereal light in Diane's spirit shining through. May the invisible arms of your friends wrapped tightly around you give you solace.

All My Love,

Diane's Legacy
By Betsy Dillard Stroud
Our wonderful friend, talented artist and beloved teacher, Diane Maxey died on March 25th. Diagnosed with brain, lung and liver cancer several years ago, Diane “fought the good fight with all her might. We all can learn much from Diane. Diane taught us that an indomitable spirit can conquer pain and a terminal diagnosis. Diane proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that with stalwart determination and faith, she would continue to paint and teach until the very end. Just ten days ago, we sat in a circle at our last 22 x 30 meeting. Frail but always enthusiastic, Diane exclaimed, "I'm just afraid I won't have time to paint all the ideas I have." Let us celebrate the life of this remarkable artist. Let us honor her commitment to her mission, her ability to express the beauty of the world through her paintings. Let us remember her dedication to her students. Carl Sandburg wrote, "Some dreams are stronger than death." I believe that Diane is already painting up a storm in Heaven. Her legacy is everlasting.

What an incredible person Diane was in my life. Carol Hillsbery and I would go to her workshops at her house and she challenged us, helped us, encouraged us, and became our friend. I'm certainly missing her smiley face and caring ways.

Diane showed me The Light. She also showed me the shadows, the reflected light, and other important artist stuff such as how to set up a watercolor palette. I learned so much from her that she has influenced every one of my paintings, including what inspires me, and for that I will always be grateful. Please know that I am not alone in these sentiments, as she has shown hundreds of artists "The Light".
