Richard Kamienski Obituary

Richard Kamienski

Portersville - Richard Kamienski, age 90, of Portersville, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.

Richard was born on October 2, 1930, in Rochester, New York. He was the son of Stanislaw and Emilja Kamienski.

Richard grew up in Rochester, NY, with his siblings Sophie, Helen and Leo. Upon his graduation from Benjamin Franklin High School, Richard received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, in 1948. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served his country in the Pacific, Japan and South Korea from 1950 - 1954. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Aventinus-3 during his Naval Service. In 1955 Richard met Jean Skillen, the love of his life. They were married on April 12, 1956 in East Orange, New Jersey. Richard and Jean had two children, Eric and Laura. They were married for over 50 beautiful years until Jean passed away in 2006. In 1960 Richard began working for Mohawk Airlines at the Utica/Rome Airport. In 1974 the family moved from Canastota to Harmony, Pennsylvania when Richard's job was transferred to the Pittsburgh International Airport. He continued to work with distinction as an outstanding aircraft mechanic until his retirement in 2005. In 2018 Richard and Laura moved to their new home in Portersville, just up the road from Harmony. Their home was a warm and welcome environment for Richard in his later years. Richard lived his life to care for his family and friends. He was loved by many and he will be always remembered fondly by all that were lucky enough to have known him.

Richard leaves behind his children, Eric, of Tempe, AZ, and Laura, of Portersville, PA, to cherish his memory. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Jason (Kristin) of Torrance, CA, Cara (Tony) of Tempe, AZ, and Claire of Tempe, AZ, and four great grandchildren, Jack and triplets Emma, Kate and Millie, of Torrance, CA. Richard is also missed by his furry Portie friends, Emily and Leo, and littlest buddy, Arthur.

In addition to his father and mother, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, who passed away on October 30, 2006.

Richard will be laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Richard's honor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars: "Veterans Assistance Fund" State Headquarters, 4002 Fenton Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17109-5943.
