Sheila Eddy Obituary

Shelia C. Eddy of Bondville passed away peacefully on the morning of June 18, 2014, at FAHC in Burlington with her loving daughters close by.

She was born February 16, 1944, to Elton A. & Shirley (Lyons) Coleman in Brattleboro, VT, and grew up in Bondville.

Sheila attended the Grahamville & Bondville School Houses and Leland & Gray Seminary where she was southpaw catcher and team captain of the undefeated softball team of 1961. Among her many academic, and civic awards, she graduated valedictorian in 1962. Sheila had a life-long love of Etymology, languages and reading, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis on the Classics from the University of VT.

While in high school, she worked across the street at Phillip's Corner Store and fondly recalled the fun she had at the soda fountain over the years. Sheila was a clerk at the Bondville Post Office for several years and locally most will remember her as a front desk fixture at Coleman's Auto. First and foremost, Sheila was an unconditional mother, always "waiting" to provide the girls with whatever support was required from moment to moment, decade to decade. We are lost without her but have been well taught to persevere.

She met and married Thomas G. Eddy, who predeceased her in 2008, in Bondville. They made their first home, raised their family, and stayed in Rawsonville for 22 years before moving to their Winhall Hollow home.

Sheila inherited a love of music from both sides of her family. She shared her musical gift with several organizations, serving as a most determined organist, including for the Bondville Methodist Church. She was in several bowling leagues where she bowled with the same measured stance and determination that she displayed on the piano.

She conquered daily crossword puzzles, loved playing Bingo and always enjoyed a thrill-ride; be it on Dusty's motorcycle or four-wheeler or Thomas's dirt-bike. Pam and Wayne's hot-air balloon ride and her sky diving adventure were highlights from her bucket list.

Beyond her dedication to biological family, Sheila was very proud of and grateful for her Masonic affiliation, both in Mount Lebanon Chapter # 89 Order of the Eastern Star and the Grand Chapter of VT, having been Worthy Grand Matron from 2009 to 2010, serving with James R. Bennett, PGP. This second family was an ongoing source of joy and inspiration. Sheila was also Past High Priestess of Nile Court #94 of Ladies' Oriental Shrine of North America, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6471 and Eagles Aerie Post 2551.

Besides Tommy, Sheila was pre-deceased by her parents, several Uncles & Aunts and a sister-in-law. She is survived by her daughters Sheryl (Leslie Day), Susan (Beth Rogers), Stacy Eddy-Gordon (Dusty), two grand-children: Thomas and Katrina Gordon (both of whom Nana & Pop-Pop were immensely proud), sister Sandra (Frank) Jones, brother E. Stuart (Barbara) Coleman, Aunt Francesca (Lyons) Gray, Uncle Sprague (Mona Lyman) Lyons, many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, granddogs and cats and a very big black cat that no one has ever seen.

The Order of the Eastern Star Funeral Ceremony is planned for her Committal Service at the Bondville Cemetery on Tuesday, June 24 at 2:00 PM; with a reception immediately following at the Community Center which houses the Mountain School. Final arrangements assisted by Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home , Burlington VT. In lieu of flowers or cards please consider memorial donations to the VT Eastern Star Home, Inc. c/o Mrs. Deborah F. Litchfield, PGM, Sec., Board of Trustees PO Box 1113 West Townshend, VT 05359 or a charity of your choice.

Larry and I are sorry we didn't get to know Sheila better. She and I had a lot in common: the HS thing (I was only salutatorian, sadly!), our college major, our involvement with music. Susan, Sheryl, and Stacey, she raised three fine daughters! Thank you for helping her to do some of those amazing things on her bucket list! Love, Mona (Beth's mom) and Larry (Beth's dad).
