Doug Comer Obituary

Douglas "Doug" Edward Comer arrived on this earth on June 17, 1966, in Oyster Bay, N.Y. and left this earth in Durham, N.C., on Nov. 17, 2020.
Doug graduated from Huntington High School in Long Island in 1984, just after his elder brother, Keith. His main interest of studies were workshop, electronics and working on autos, as his father, James Comer, was a workshop teacher at a nearby Locust Valley High School. As he decided on his true path in life, he became an Auxiliary Police Officer and EMT in Long Island. He then graduated from electronics trade school in August 1984 in Farmington, N.Y.
As Doug's parents, Jim and Marge Comer, contemplated relocating to the more gentle weather seasons of North Carolina, Doug moved to North Carolina as well, and attended Alamance Community College where he received an associated degree in electronics. Joining a small group of job applicants at Duke, he then worked at Duke Medical Center's Bio Med department in the operating rooms. It was then that he met and married his soul mate, Maria Anna Mitch, also from New York. A year after meeting, they had a Cinderella and Prince Charming themed Disney wedding. He later progressed to UNC-CH operating rooms and then after years of hard study, became part of the IT team at Sectra, North America, a medical technology company from Linkoping, Sweden.
Doug was known to his family as one of their two beloved sons, always willing to help his father, Jim, with a project, as his brother Keith did the same when a project suited his intellect. Doug was known to his Sectra co-workers as the one with the dry, great sense of humor, much like his father, Jim.
To his wife Maria, he was the sun that lit up a room, her partner in eternal life. To their neighbors, he was the guy who trimmed their hedges and curbs when they didn't own weed trimmers. To the Durham community, he built homes for Habitat for Humanity and built computers for kids without one as part of the Kramden Institute.
He leaves behind his wife, Maria Mitch; his parents, Jim and Marge; his Aunts Linda and Nancy; brother, Keith and his wife Julie and their children.
