Nancy Jenny Obituary

Nancy Swords Jenny

Essex Junction - Nancy Swords Jenny of Essex Vermont, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 13th. Nancy was born on May 12, 1964 in Cedar Rapids Iowa. She is the daughter of Phillip and Carol (Hofstetter) Swords of Rutland Vermont. Nancy, along with two siblings, grew up and attended elementary and high schools in Rutland. She earned her B.S. (1986) and Ph.D. (1990) degrees in Chemistry from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy New York. Nancy was completing her postdoctoral studies at the University of Vermont, during which time she met her husband to be (married on October 29, 1993). Nancy excelled through her career at the University of Vermont, where she authored numerous prestigious publications. At the time of her death she was an Associate Professor, running the Jenny Lab in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Vermont, pursuing her research interests in the areas of age-related diseases such as atherosclerosis, dementia and frailty.

In addition to her professional commitment, Nancy was compassionate about animals, especially horses. Together with her husband and children, they established a hobby and second career with horses, riding competitively and founding Brigham Hill Stables, LLC in Essex. It is through this love of horses that the family grew, as did their circle of friends. Nancy loved spending time at the barn and her presence there will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband Richard Jenny, her children Kaelyn and Connor Jenny, her parents Phillip and Carol (Hofstetter) Swords, her sisters Amy (Christopher) Roy and Patti (Peter) Inglis, and one nephew Furious (Furi) Roy. She also leaves behind many friends and her beloved animals (esp. Piggy and Levi her horses and Brynn her loving dog).

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday June 20, 2018 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church 20 Jericho Rd. Essex Center. A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 AM at St. Pius. Burial will be private.
