John Lytle Obituary

John T. Lytle, 83, a teacher, a basketball coach and a high school principal who made learning English and German and playing basketball more interesting for several generations of students, passed away peacefully Friday morning at his home in Renfrew.
Born on Aug. 10, 1931, in York, he was a son of the late John T. Lytle Sr. and Florence Hagarman Lytle.
John was a 1949 graduate from St. Charles Seminary in Catonsville, Md. He received his bachelor's degree from Millersville State Teachers College and his Master's Degree in Education from Rutgers University. He also did graduate work at Penn State and Mansfield State College.
John started his teaching career as a Latin and English teacher at Mount Wolf Junior High School, Mount Wolf. He then taught German and English at Lebanon Catholic High School, Lebanon, where he also coached the boy's basketball and football teams. He also taught and coached at Holy Cross Catholic High School in Riverside, N.J.
In 1967, he went on to pursue positions in secondary education administration. He was principal at Williamson High School in Tioga, principal at Eastern High School in Wrightsville and assistant principal at Butler High School from 1977 until retiring in 1993.
After retirement, he was active for several years in the Public Schools Employees Retirement System (PSERS). He also enjoyed working as a ranger for Krendale Golf Course and enjoyed golfing, hunting, camping, and reading.
He was a member of the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian and also the Men's Club at St. Fidelis.
Surviving are his loving wife, Anne M. Correll Lytle, who he married on June 20, 1953; his six children, Michael (Robin) Lytle of Browns Mills, N.J., Mary (Kurt) Kreisler of Elkland, William T. Lytle of York, Charles S. (Delma) Lytle of Seven Valleys, Theresa (Chuck) Harvey of Hummelstown, and Joseph (Laurie) Lytle of Butler; his 10 grandchildren; his seven great-grandchildren, and his two brothers, William Lytle of York and James (Judy) Lytle of Ohio.
In addition to his parents; his brother, the Rev. Gerald Lytle, and his grandson, Joshua Paul Mentzer, preceded him in death.
Lytle- The friends of John T. Lytle, who passed away Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian, with the Rev. James Murphy, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations should be made to the St. Fidelis Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Butler, PA 16001, or to the VNA Hospice Program, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.

I'm sorry I never met you Mrs. Lytle, but John's brothers Bill and Jim will remember me from a long time ago when we were neighbors on Florida Avenue in York. I was sorry to read of John's passing in the paper. I knew brother Jerry had passed away quite some time ago, but I haven't heard or seen Bill or Jim for many years--probably since we graduated from high school. My sympathy goes out to you and your family.

Dear family of. John , so sorry to hear about your loss. What a funny, kind man he was. O remember way back on my high school years when he was principle in butler area high, you would always see him in the halls laughing and joking around with the students. Alwayd had a smile on his face. Now, john you are walking hand in hand with the lord. Glad you where hear for many years with your family, so they have many happy, long memories of you to always remember. Your not gone forever
