William Thompson Obituary

William K. Thompson, 82, of Renfrew passed away Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1932, in Hooker, the son of the late Merle H. and Vivian (Groom) Thompson.
Bill played professional baseball in the minor leagues for Cincinnati and Milwaukee. He was a member of the St. Fidelis Catholic Church.
He was a teacher for 29 years and an athletic director for the South Butler School District for many years.
Surviving are his three daughters, Billie (James) Kennedy of Southern Pines, N.C., Kathleen Estes of Richmond, Va., and Barbara (Rick) Reuschel of Butler; his three sons, Vernon Scot (Georgia) Thompson of Butler, Joseph (Penny) Thompson of Chesterfield, Va., and Thomas (Torri) Thompson of Millers Creek, N.C.; his 12 grandchildren, Nicole (Will) Mason, Timothy (Kerri) Burns, Becka (Brad) Drum, Dustin (Jamie) Thompson, David (Adriane) Thompson, Brittany (Blake) Meyer, Caroline (Liam) Woodard, Colbi (Josh) Young, Kazie (Matthew) Pasquinelli, Callie Jo, Brock and Bree Thompson; his 12 great-grandchildren; his three stepgrandchildren; his stepgreat-grandchild; his brother, Ronald K. (Mary Lou) Thompson of New Castle; his brother-in-law, Hubert (Janet) Voltz of Butler; and his sister-in-law, Alice Lehnerd of Las Vegas, Nev. Bill is also survived by his lifelong friends, Dick and Kitty Walker, Ron and Ellie Kennedy, Bud and Zoe Weckerly, Garry and Georgia Molloy and Paul and Lois Dunbar.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores "Pat" (Voltz) Thompson, who died on Aug. 7, 2012.
Thompson - The friends of William K. Thompson, who passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, will be received at theYoung Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from noon until the time of a blessing service at 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 or the American Heart Association, 10 Duff Road, Suite 304, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
