Katherine MEDERER Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Aug. 15 to Aug. 16, 2013.
MEDERER, Katherine (Kitty) Mary (Bell)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved friend and cousin, Katherine (Kitty) Mary Mederer (Bell) on Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Kitty was born in Dumfries, Scotland on November 12, 1928 to James and Catherine Bell. As a small child Kitty immigrated to Canada with her parents and settled in Manitoba. Kitty lived in Calgary for most of her adult life and enjoyed travelling and spending time with friends. In addition to travelling extensively, Kitty worked as a bookkeeper, clerk, secretary, and travel agent. She also owned a restaurant and in her later years took university courses. Kitty's positive attitude, sense of adventure, innate curiousity, and her interest in the world around her, made her someone you wanted to talk to and spend time with. Kitty was an amazing woman and her intelligence, strength, wisdom and wonderful sense of humour will be greatly missed by those of us who knew and loved her. Kitty leaves behind cousins in Australia and Scotland as well as countless friends. At Kitty's request there will be no service. Her cremated remains will be privately scattered in the Scattering Garden at Queen's Park Cemetery at a later date. If you wish to make a donation in Kitty's name, please do so to the charity of your choice.

Kitty gave me my first cooking job in Radium out of cooking school in 1984. Even though I just made toast, it was a great experience. I'll always remember her with great fondness.

My parents Mowat and Jeane Good were good friends of Kitty's and growing up, it was always such fun to listen to her stories. I was able to catch up with her last summer and as always she was a delight. Her spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

My mom and Kitty were childhood friends. I remember meeting her when I was nine years old, and thought she was wonderful. She has always been generous with me, and made me feel like I was special. I am grateful that I saw her recently and I will miss her. God bless...

Kitty and I go back since the early 70s when we both worked at Whiteside. What a privilege to have known her and to call her a friend. Even though we have lost touch the past few years, she was a great friend who was always positive and full of laughter.

Kitty was an amazing person and a best friend. Her kindness, thoughtfulness and her laughter will not be forgotten! Kitty has been a positive influence in my life from the early age of 17 when she was my first boss, thru to her passing and beyond. She will be greatly missed. I have been blessed to have had her in my life and I am grateful.

We will so miss Kitty. She was such an amazing friend. We had known her for many many years. We were her Valentine Secret Admirer's until recently when she busted us. We love you Kitty, may god bless you!

Kitty will be greatly missed, she was like family to me. I had the pleasure of working for her at her restaurant and then the honour of becoming her friend. The lunches and laughter will be so greatly missed. Rest my dear lady. It truly was an honour to call you my friend.

The Briggs family will miss dinners with Kitty and will remember her last trip to Mexico with us. Kitty always had many wonderful stories about her adventures.
