Yukio Nakayama Obituary

NAKAYAMA, YUKIO passed away Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010.He was born in Tacoma, Washington June 17, 1919. He is survived by his wife, Toshiko Nakayama, to whom he was married for 50 years! He is also survived by his devoted nephew David. Yukio enjoyed his life at Severn House with his wife where he used to swim 44 laps, the equivalent of one mile. He loved to collect rare art and prints and loved to travel around the world. Yukio graduated from his beloved Duke University in North Carolina from which he earned a degree in economics. He went on to graduate from Columbia University in New York with a masters in public law and government. Yukio served his country well during World War II in the army. After the war, he worked as a Director of Weapons Program Evacuation and Management Systems, Naval Ordinance Systems Command. Yukio was known for helping young people further their education, both at Duke University and to the Severn House lifeguards. Memorial services were held at Manresa at Atria. Another service will be held at Severn House Pool at a future date. Yukio Nakayama will be sorely missed by the residents of both Manresa at Atria and Severn House.
