I met Don the first week of my first "real" job. He was truly influential in my career. He was well known in the Navy acoustic community and will be missed. My fond memories usually include his pipe, those tiny #2 pencils, and a pint. My condolences to his family.

Alice and family, please accept my sincere condolences on behalf of the Penn State Aerospace Engineering Department. When I first came to Penn State in 1986, the Office of Naval Research offered us an opportunity to engage in fan noise studies related to several ship board noise problems on virtually all navy ships (and boats). I partnered with Don, who at the time had far more extensive experience with the Navy than did I. Over a ten year period of continuous ONR support, Don and I advised about a dozen students, including four PhD students who have gone on to have outstanding careers of their own. It was a wonderful ten year experience and Don was a major contributor till we both moved on to other ventures. Don was experienced, highly intelligent and a wonderful advisor to the students and partner to me, and other colleagues in our department. He was dependable and a calming influence during occasional difficult times with research problems. We will cherish his memory with you. Rest in Peace Don.
