John Cunnane Obituary
Born June 20, 1936 in Bronx, NY to John P. and Anne Cunnane, John lived in New York, Charlotte, and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. John attended St. Anselm's Parochial and Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. In 1954 he joined the U.S. Army. He served in Germany and claimed his service was "distinct for its lack of distinction." He was honorably discharged in 1956 and went on to graduate with a B.S. in accounting from NYU. He earned his C.P.A. and opened a private accounting practice in Westchester County, NY.
John met fellow student and future wife Elaine Pacchiana at the NYU Newman Center. In 2009 they celebrated their 50th anniversary. In 1977 in New York John and Elaine started Cunnane Development Inc., a company operating in the Carolinas as Cunnane Group Inc. He retired in the late 80s. He loved golf and trips to Ireland.
John was very hard to know but very easy to like. Through joy or adversity he never showed his cards. "Just peaks and valleys" he'd say. "Never panic."
John is survived by his wife Elaine, sisters Elaine Svec and Irene Szewczyk, his sons John, Lance, Scott and daughter Nadine DiIorio. He was a proud grandfather of 10. He'll be missed by all.
Funeral service to be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Ballantyne 10:30 AM on Saturday July 16, 2016, in the chapel. A memorial service will be held in New York in August.
