Keith Wellin

1926 - 2014

Retired Wall Street executive, devoted father and grandfather Keith S. Wellin died September 14, 2014 at age 88 in Charleston, SC following a long illness. Born on August 13, 1926 in Grand Rapids, MI, Keith Wellin was raised in Chicago, IL. After graduating from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL, he attended The Citadel in Charleston, SC and served as an officer in the US Army in Seoul, Korea. Following his Army Service, Keith Wellin received a BA in Philosophy and English Literature from Hamilton College before he earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1952. During his career, Keith Wellin served as President of E.F. Hutton & Co., President of Reynolds Securities Inc. and then Vice Chairman of Dean Witter Reynolds. He served as a member and later Governor of the Executive Committee of the Association for Stock Exchange Firms and as a member of the Governing Council of the Securities Industry Association. Keith Wellin also served as Chairman of Moorco International Inc. Keith Wellin supported Hamilton College after his graduation, joining its Board of Trustees in 1969 and later was named a Life Trustee. His gifts benefited a wide range of activities and programs at Hamilton, including the performing arts, athletics and the sciences. Most recently, in memory of his parents, he and his wife Wendy contributed generously to the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum, which was dedicated in 2012. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Carol Woodhouse Wellin (mother of his children), and his sister, Jane Wellin Ketler. Surviving family include his present wife, Wendy Lane Wellin; his sister, Janis Wellin Notz; his children, Cynthia Wellin Plum, Peter Jeffery Wellin, Marjorie Wellin King; and his grandchildren, Ann and Keith Plum, Nicholas, Nathaniel and Gustav Wellin and Mackenzie, Abigail and Claire King, and several nieces and nephews. His family plans a private memorial service to honor Keith Wellin's life in October. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his name to the Christian Herald Association of New York City.
