Edward GIULIANI Obituary

GIULIANIEdward Joseph "Big Ed", 82, of Sharonville, OH passed away October 29, 2008 of complications of cancer. He was born 12/18/1925 in Newport, KY to Ezio and Genevieve Giuliani. Ed graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1944, and later became proprietor of Sharon Farm Market from 1957-1990. He was an avid and proficient game bird hunter, enthusiastic fisherman and history buff.Big Ed actualized Frank Sinatra's song 'My Way'. He possessed an unparalleled zest for life. Whatever he cared about, he pursued with absolute conviction. As the proprietor Sharon Farm Market he organized his business in such a way that he could hunt from late October until February. In March, he would begin to get his market, which was located at the corner of Kemper and US 42, ready for the new season. By April the market was open for business and he was working 7 days a week starting at 5 AM not finishing until 9 PM. There were no vacations and no holidays. Once the market closed in late October he hunted every day like it was his last day on the planet. One of his hunting companions remarked that "if you could stay up with Ed you could kill a lot of birds" to which a 2nd companion replied "that is the issue, no one can stay up with Ed". He started hunting woodcocks in October, moving to quail in November, and finishing with grouse in February. He routinely took hunting tr ips to Wisconsin, Kansas, and Montana. He had hunted every game bird in North America. He also loved fishing but rarely had the time because of his complete dedication to hunting. In his younger life he was a star football player for St. Xavier high school and as result of his athletic abilities he won a scholarship to Miami University which was a football powerhouse at the time. He attended part of his freshman year at Miami University. World War II intervened and he served in the United States Air Force. During his service, as a result of a plane crash, he broke both of his ankles. He was able to recover from his injuries eventually but his football career was over. He had a tremendous knowledge about all subjects related to the great outdoors and hunting. He loved training dogs and had 2-3 hunting dogs most of his adult life. English pointers (male), English setters (female), and Gordon setters (female) were his favorite hunting dogs. He was a virtual walking encyclopedia on the subject of hunting. He was an avid reader and quite conversant around the subjects of United States and World History, geography, nature and wildlife. He had a photographic memory and could return to any location from memory even if he hadn't been to the location in 30 years. He was able to quickly do complex mathematical calculations in his head. In spite arranging his professional life around his desire to hunt, he was a good provider for his 3 children. Teresa, the oldest child, is a PhD in clinical psychology. Michael ,the middle child, is a physician specializing in neurology. The youngest child Tony is a chemical engineer.Sharon Farm Market became a cultural icon of a bygone way of doing business. Their customers become like extended members of the family knowing Big Ed and Mickey across 2-3 generations. After leaving the business 18 years ago people still stop them in a shop and tell them how much they miss them and the market. Many local kids got their first job at Sharon Farm Market. They would say it was hard work and they learned some valuable lessons. Many former employees still stop them decades later to thank them for valuable lessons or the motivation to obtain an easier profession. Either way Mick and Ed were happy to see so many young people progress along on their life's journey.Big Ed was a charming engaging rascal who refused to grow up. He loved to tell a good story. Occasionally, he told the same version twice. Regardless the story was always entertaining. That was what mattered most to Ed. He loved to entertain the world . He was always bigger than life and living it entirely on his terms. He will be sorely missed by his family but we take great comfort in the fact that he never left anything on the sidelines in the big game of life.
