Cheryl Owenby Obituary

MARSHALL - Cheryl Reeves Owenby, 54, of Marshall, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 21, 2011.
Cheryl was the owner and operator of Reeves Owenby Insurance Agency. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Marshall where she sang in the choir and was on many church committees. She was preceded in death by her youngest sister, Pam Reeves; father, Roy Reeves and father-in-law, Roy P. Owenby.
Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Roy "Butch" Owenby of the home; twin children, Tegan Owenby of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Alexander Owenby of the home; her mother, Dortha Reeves of Marshall; sisters, Janet Reeves and Terry Titmus (Charles) all of Marshall; mother-in-law, Marjorie Owenby; and sister-in-law, Anita Owenby.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday in First Baptist Church, Marshall with the Rev. Stephen Loftis, Rev. Craig Walker and Rev. Buddy Freeman officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Madison Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Marshall Building Fund, P.O. Box 484, Marshall, NC 28753.

I don't know if it is too late to add a comment, but I just found out about Cheryl's death. My husband and I went to Mars Hill with Cheryl. We were all music majors. Cheryl and I also pledged Delto Omicron together. We shared many laughs and tears together. I am so sad that we did not keep up with our communications together. She was a special friend. May her family continue to share special memories and have peace knowing that Cheryl touched many lives.

My deepest sympathy to every member of Cheryl's family. Cheryl, and her family, were so important during my youth, whether at church, a ball game or the insurance office, Cheryl and her family added so much to the town and touched the lives of the people who lived in Marshall. Butch, Tegan and Alex, Cheryl was a good lady with a big heart...she would listen and have true compassion for others. Butch, I have known you and Cheryl since way back before Tegan and Alex were born. My heart breaks for you and your family. Cheryl was a wonderful woman and a wonderful friend. My daughter Mary was so looking forward to her smiling face at her wedding. If you ever need anything, or just to talk don't hesitate. I know you are going to be overwhelmed by people offering to help, so please let them. You and your children still have each other to hold and comfort and be there for each other. I remember many many years ago when Cheryl, Butch, Mike and I got together on Saturday night to play Spades!! We had a great time. Cheryl or Mike always seemed to win!! That was so very long ago. Seems like yesterday! Our lives and work and family took over and we didnt have the time to get together. I will always remember what fun we had. Cheryl I know you are with your Dad and Pam and I know Mike is there also! I send out my love to Butch, Tegan and Alex. May God help you through your sorrow.

I first met Cheryl just prior to her graduating from college. I was in Roys office,paying my insurance when my car fell victim to domestic abuse.Cheryl bless her heart had never dealt with domestic or emotional abuse before.She saw how nervous and upset I was and how upset my young son was at the time.She didn't ask me what the troubles were but calmly asked me if I was ok and if It was ok with me that she would like to remember me and my little son in her prayers.So we went into a back office and prayed together.That was over 25 years ago.I was able to get out of that relationship with Gods help and had a wonderful 20 yr marriage.My husband passed away less than a year ago but I will always remember Cheryl's kindness and concern for me that day.She did not know me from adam as the old saying goes.She just knew I needed a kind word and a prayer.She gave both freely.God Bless you Cheryl.You have earned your angels wings.

I was blessed to know Cheryl as she was my Chorus Teacher when I was at Enka many years ago. She had a knack for making everyone she knew feel special. She's singing with the Angels now. We are all blessed to have known her. May God Bless you all during this difficult time and remember we will get to see her again!

I did not know Cheryl very well but was very sadden by the news. I was one of her clients and have been a client there for 32 years. Roy was my accounting teacher in high school. I was always treated with kindness and respect. It was a pleasure doing business with her and talking with her. My heart goes out to her family and friends. You are in our prayers.
