Robert Carmichael Obituary

Robert W. Carmichael, age 59, passed away on Thursday evening, December 25, 2008, at Ellis Hospital following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving husband and father who cared deeply for his family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Francine Carmichael (nee LaMalfa). Bob is survived by his children, Cheryl (Marty) and John Carmichael; brothers, Gary (Janet) and Richard Carmichael; brother-in-law, Fred (Ilene) LaMalfa; nephews, Chris (Barb) and Ryan Carmichael, Eric, Jake, Frank, Paul and Nick LaMalfa; nieces, Ann Marie (Matt) McDaniel, Jennifer and Courtney Carmichael; as well as several cousins and many dear friends. Born on April 30, 1949 of the late John and Marion Carmichael (nee Cope), Bob was a lifelong resident of Schenectady, graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School and member of the Rotterdam Elks. From lineman at New York Telephone to line crew manager at Verizon Communications, he was dedicated and loyal employee of the company for 32 years until his retirement in 2003. Bob enjoyed many hobbies from bird watching to Lionel trains. He was a skilled craftsman and took a great deal of pleasure and pride in his work. An animal lover and humanitarian, Bob was always quick to offer a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. He will be forever remembered for his thoughtful and generous nature. Bob was especially grateful for the unwavering love and support of his dedicated brother, Gary and loyal friends, Bob Hughes and Tony Peretta. Calling hours will be held on Monday morning, Dec. 29, from 9 to 11 am. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Schenectady. A memorial service will follow the calling hours at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will at Saint Joseph's Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in memory of Robert Carmichael to the Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Albany Medical Center, c/o Albany Medical Center Foundation, 43 New Scotland Ave., MC119, Albany NY 12208.
