Pranas Mazeika Obituary

Dr. Pranas "Frank" Mazeika formerly of Lake Zurich Services for Dr. Pranas "Frank" Mazeika, 89, will begin with prayers at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Petkus Lemont Funeral Home, 12401 S. Archer Ave. (at Derby Road), Lemont, and proceed to Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis Mission Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Dr. Mazeika passed away Friday, April 13, 2007, after a lengthy illness. He was born and educated in Lithuania, receiving his medical degree there in 1943. An avid sportsman, Dr. Mazeika was part of the Lithuanian National Basketball Team, which won the European Championship in 1937 and 1939. Dr. Mazeika came to America with his wife, Valentina, and son, Andrew, in 1949, eventually settling in Lake Zurich, where he practiced medicine for over 40 years. He was the devoted husband of the late Valentina Mazeika (nee Gerulaitis); loving father of Andrew (Judi) Mazeika and Irene (Gary) Downs; cherished grandfather of four; and beloved great-grandfather of five. Dear Andy and Irene, We were saddened to hear of Dr. Mazeika's passing. Our family loved him and missed his loving care when he retired. We will always think of him as a wonderful friend and doctor.
