David HACKER Obituary

News Death Notice

HACKER, David Edward November 21, 1944 - March 16, 2016 Endearing husband of Cheryl (Tripp) Hacker for 47 years, father of Alex David Hacker (Heidi) and Gretchen Lynn Hopkins (David), grandfather (G-Pa) to Riley and Regan Hopkins and Evan and Caleb Hacker, brother to Steven (Nancy), as well as uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, and cousin to many, lost his valiant struggle against cancer after nearly two years. Dave was preceded in death by his parents Alfred J. Hacker and Rose Hennessey Hacker. Raised in Hamilton, Ohio, Dave graduated from Bowling Green State University. His career started with Mead Paper where he held many executive management positions. He later joined A.O. Smith Electrical Products Company in Tipp City, Ohio, retiring after 12 fantastic years. He and Cheryl lived in Dayton, Ohio for 27 years before retiring to Sarasota, Florida. A passionate golfer, Dave was fortunate to travel and entertain at some of the best courses in the world. He was an avid fisherman who truly loved his trips to Oregon where he camped with friends, associates, and his son. Dave was a dedicated servant. He volunteered at various times with United Way, Big Brothers, Meals on Wheels, Nate's Honor Animal Rescue, Rides for the Homebound, and at Just for Girls Academy. He was a member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church, and felt blessed to have its congregation in his life. With Dave's adventurous soul, he tried to live everyday to its fullest and reminded all he knew that "Life is not a dress rehearsal." He drew strength from his faith, family, and many friends. He will be remembered for his wit, loyalty, and contagious smile. Dave was blessed and truly knew it! A Celebration of Life will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3131 61st Street, Sarasota, FL 34243, on Saturday, March 26, at 11 AM, followed by a reception (details to be shared at the Celebration). At a later date, a gathering will be held in celebration of Dave in Dayton, Ohio. In remembrance, Dave asked that you give of your time or donate to a charity of your choice.

Cheryl, I am so sorry and surprised to hear of Dave's passing.
Unfortunately, I have lost touch with our old group. I have just moved back to Dayton because my daughter is critically ill and Jane told me about Dave. He was so much fun and the only other person that lived in Hamilton, OH besides myself that would admit it. If you do come back, please let me know of the second memorial as I would certainly br there. Shari O'[email protected]

I had the pleasure and honor of working for Dave at AO Smith for several years. He was a great inspiration to me and served as the best possible role model to a young man starting his career. He was always quick to take time to acknowledge the good in each person and made you feel special. My heart felt sympathy to you all during this difficult time. I will always carry Dave's memory with me as he was a most special man.

Dave was a dear man--a fun-loving, great dancer, who shared his enthusiasm for golf and stories with us all. He will be missed!

We had the pleasure of meeting Dave and his beautiful wife, Cheryl while camping with our family, Dick & Cheryl Hartman of Dayton, OH. After a weekend with the Hacker's we felt like we've known them a lifetime; we totally enjoyed his lamb chops and all the great stories and laughs that weekend.

It sure didn't take us very long to know that Dave & Cheryl were truly great people! It's not a surprise that Dave has left a wonderful legacy behind. From the stories that we've heard, Dave was larger than life and he lived it to the fullest. He lived the all ("American Dream')!
Now that Dave is gone from this earth and is enjoying the everlasting life, with no pain, no sickness, no worries; may all the beautiful memories be a blessing to Dave's beautiful wife, Cheryl and to his family and all who love him.

No one will understand why Dave got sick and had to leave so soon; but we pray that God will comfort each of you and lift you up during you're journey of grief! Our prayers and thoughts are with each of you during this very painful time and Cheryl, please remember you are not alone, so many people share in you're pain and sorrow!
With love, sadness and butterfly kisses, Carol & John

I was truly blessed to be able to know him as my uncle. He is, and always will be, someone that I look-up to! He quite simply was a joy to be around and talk with...a caring heart, a thoughtful mind, a tremendous attitude, and rich spirit.

It was a privilege to know Dave and enjoy his exuberance for life and love of family. Watching Dave & Cheryl dance together, one could catch a glimpse of their great love. In these last months,
Dave provided an example of grace and poise. He will be missed. Maryanne Harmsen
