I took drum lessons at Anselmo's way back in 1984-86-ish. I usually studied with a guy named Steve Egan? but there were days when Frank would sub and be my teacher. He was an amazing drummer and a super-nice guy. I am saddened to hear of his passing, albeit many years later. Rest in peace and thank you for being a part of my drumming experience.

Every so often when I feel nostalgic, I google past places I've lived and worked and people I've known. Was curious if Anselmo's was still around, and was saddened to see the passing of Frank. It's been over 20 years since I left Rochester,(and with regret, never went back to visit many good people I had the pleasure of calling friends) but I still remember fondly our battles on the tennis court, and playing shortstop on Frank's softball team that got killed in every game. The post game beers at the California Brew Haus was the best part of that league. My years working at Oakdale upstairs were great thanks to Frank and the gang downstairs including Brian,Joe,Steve,Vince,Dave and others. My condolences to Nancy and his family.

Be sure to meet me for a beer when I cross over to the other side.

Very sorry to hear of Franks passing. I have known and been friends with Frank since our days at Nazareth College. Frank was a wonderful human being, and fine musician and fantastic educator who gave his heart and soul to his students over the years. He will be missed by many.....

Mr. A was the best music teacher I have ever had. I met him in first grade when we started with the recorder and violin, and then in third grade I picked up a clarinet and have played ever since. Mr. A always made rehearsals and lessons fun and exciting, which made me look forward to everything....except practicing. Mr. A was an inspirational person and he's the reason why I still play clarinet today, 12 years later. He will always be remembered in my heart and many others.

I met Frank back in the days when he owned the music store. He was such a likable guy from the start. Always in a great mood. He had such a passion for music. I, like many others, would often stop by the store just to say hi and talk. He was a great guy. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I worked at Anselmo's Musical Concepts for several years back in the day. It was a great place to work, crazy at times, but we had a blast. That store was smaller than most in physical size, but was huge in the amount of business it did and was really like a center for a lot of us in the local music scene, as everyone knew the place and all the local musicians were popping in all the time. Frank made it feel like family working there and he was a great boss. I look back on those days and remember them as some of the best times I had back then and I'll never forget that. My thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy and his family...Frank was a great guy and will truly be missed by all.

Although, I never got a chance to really get to know him...there was no doubt in my mind Mr. Anselmo was a great man who enjoyed teaching children the joys of music...my prayers go out to his family, friends, and his students.

Mr. Anselmo was a great music teacher, a great role model, and he inspired many people around him to do great things.

Mr. A was not just an ordinary teacher. He was a role model, a great musician, and most of all my best friend through my childhood (3rd grade at St. Pius) until now almost 13 years later. I still look up to him, with his patience, and how he dealt with me(the class clown). He showed me how to play the saxophone and was my influence to keep going. I love him and he will always be in my heart. Love you Mr.A

I am so sorry to hear about the sudden loss of Frank. Frank Taught my children Music also. I would peek through the classroom window and watch as he would let my 2 1/2 yr old daughter pick any instrument up and start Banging it, shakeing it, or pound the ivory off the keys, he would sit there smiling and play his bongos along with any song she was in the process of "creating". This created a love for music that is with my 18 yrold daughter today. Amazing Music teacher ! Having been a teamate of his in vollyball, I can say he was one of the worst players I ever played with. However, he always had that smile on his face, and enjoyed every minute of the competition, even when he would go to the net against some 6'6'' tall ape pounding the ball over him. He was 100% all the way. It was an honor to be on the team with him! An honor to call him my friend! Frank, you will be missed but not forgoten. My prayers to the entire family.
With love

Being a former student of Mr. Anselmo, he inspired everyone around him and instilled in all of us excitement, wonder, and amazement. I learned more than just music from him, I learned some life lessons. I'm so grateful for the years I had him as a teacher and his legacy will continue on.

I'm very sorry for the loss tothe Anselmo family as well as the St.Pius Family.

Mr. Anselmo was talked about several times in my home. I am happy my daughter was able to meet him as well as him teach her to play the violin. He challenged her and she proved she could do it.

His family is in my thoughts and prayers. He will be missed greatly, especially by my daughter.

Mr. A was the best music teacher ever. I bet that in heaven he is teaching God how to play the violin.

Words cannot begin to express the loss that our community has suffered through the passing of Frank Anselmo. Frank was an incredible individual, fostering the talents of his students and inspiring them to redefine what students thought was possible.

I can personally attest to this, as he is the man who recognized my talent at a young age and encouraged me to pursue Jazz Band at All Saints Catholic Academy in 2005. Little did I know that playing piano would become one of the major components of my life. He pushed me to challenge myself, provided opportunities to develop my talent, and worked with me endlessly to become the musician I am today.

Some people measure the life of an individual by one's personal economic or professional success. In the case of Frank, I measure the value of his life by the lasting impact he has made on thousands of individuals, including students, staff, friends, and audiences alike. Never have I met an individual as supportive, passionate, motivated, and inspiring as Frank. Music lessons he provided transcended the practice rooms; I learned so much from him in only two years. His approach to music is like no other- he encouraged mistakes so we could learn from them. He assigned solos to students whether they wanted them or not. He redefined the norms of the average music teacher, and that is what he will be remembered by.

A talented musician. A man of dignified character. A role model for hundreds of young musicians unjustly taken from us through such a terrible fate. Fortunately, I find consolation in the fact that his legacy will continue to live on through those who had the distinct privilege of being one of his many students, including myself. I will cherish memories of "Jammin' With Charlie," "Milo on the Midway," and our Schools Tour with the Lilac Festival performance for years to come. I am confident his memory will live on through those whom he has touched.

"And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." -Abraham Lincoln

With utmost gratitude,

As a former student of Mr. Anselmo, I cannot express enough how much he has impacted my life. The joy he got from being around his students was infectious, and made us love being there so much more. I am saddened that we have lost such a great man, but I am glad to be able to look back on all the fond memories I have of him.

It was my privilege to work alongside Frank at both All Saints Jr. High and through Rush-Henrietta Continuing Ed. He was the finest music teacher I have ever known or worked with. Frank was loved by all; including own son who took piano lessons during preschool.

Frank, you were simply the best! You will be missed by everyone.

Music today is a huge part of my life. It all started back in 3rd grade when my mother made me play saxophone because it is what my sister had played. I took lessons from Mr. Anselmo at St. Pius X Elementary School and then again at All Saints Catholic Academy. Mr. Anselmo always told me to keep pursuing music because he recognized a talent in me, even though I refused to believe him. He convinced me to try other instruments and broaden my horizons so I tried guitar (which I still play), I tried bugle (which I utterly failed at), I tried fife (which I continue to play), and all the while I shied away from sax! I remember I used to dread going down to the band room at All Saints and every Tuesday he would have to call my name down to go. Looking back now, that memory of him always searching for me to help me with my music will be in my mind. Whenever I associate music with the Bowers family, I will always have a place for Mr. Anselmo right there.

We are so sorry to hear of Frank's passing. He was like a part of the family for many years as he taught our son, Brendan, drums and piano at St. Lawrence and All Saints. We always enjoyed his concerts. You could see his love for his work and his students. His enthusiasm was contagious. Brendan loved having Frank as his teacher. We will always remember Frank as one of the nicest influences in our son's life. Our sincere condolences to all of his family. Alan and Kathy Hall
