Alan Carver Obituary

1965 ~ 2015
On October 5, 2015, Alan McLean Carver, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and brother died in a tragic accident doing something he loved, flying and teaching others about the joy of flight. Alan left a mark on all he met, changing everyone's life for the better. He dearly loved those he worked with and they loved him.
Alan was a storyteller supreme, putting down on paper the histories of his parents for all their ancestors to enjoy. He was the light of every family gathering, his contagious laugh and delightfully entertaining stories made him everyone's favorite person.
Beyond witty, he was also a selfless example of love for all he met. His skills as a pilot were renowned. Alan retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel in 2012 after logging over 6,000 hours of flight time, 1,400 of which were combat hours. He currently was the Chief Flight Instructor for Upper Limit Aviation and SUU's aviation program. Prior to relocating to Cedar City, Alan flew as a contract pilot.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alan loved his calling as a Home Teacher, and was valiant in his service to his neighbors and community. He served in the France, Paris mission from 1984 to 1986, making many lifelong friends, establishing a foundation of service for the remainder of his life. Other callings included Branch President in Okinawa, Japan, ward missionary, ward clerk and primary teacher. Alan was always willing to accept any assignment at a moment's notice. Alan and Janet found great peace in the temple and their relationship with Jesus Christ is very sacred to them.
Alan earned a Bachelor's degree in Design Engineering Technology from BYU and a Master of Aerospace Composites from Utah State University. He truly had a thirst for knowledge and was a lifelong learner, always humble enough to receive instruction. He quietly shared his own expertise with those who sought his counsel.
His early years were spent in Midvale and Tremonton, Utah as well as Yakima and Kennewick, Washington.
Alan is survived by his wife Janet, and his four children, Taylor (Luke) Kevan, Hannah, Garret, and Rachel; one grandson, William; his sisters, Susan (John) Deans, Nancy (Bill) Judd, Pat (Dale) Madsen, Karma (Brent) Bateman, and his brother Jim (Anita) Carver. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Lu Jean Carver.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 12, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Cedar North Stake Center (95 N 2125 W, Cedar City). A viewing will be held Sunday, October 11th from 5-7:00 pm at Southern Utah Mortuary (190 N 300 W, Cedar City). Another viewing will be held Monday, October 12th from 12:30-1:30 pm at the stake center. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Dear Janet,
Vivie and I were saddened to hear of the untimely passing of your husband, Alan, and send our deepest condolences. Alan was always a bright shining beam of optimism and positive attitude during my time as the commander of AFOTEC. A friend to all, he made significant contributions to the current and future combat readiness of the United States Air Force and its sister Services.
While words can not ease the grief of you and your family, I hope that you will find some comfort in knowing that Alan's friends and colleagues throughout his Air Force career, and especially those of us who had the opportunity to serve with him at AFOTEC, are keeping you and yours in our thoughts and prayers.
God bless you and your family during this most difficult time.
Sincerely,
Steve Sargeant

In the one year that I knew Alan I don't think that I ever saw him without a smile on his face. He had a greeting for everyone he met and had a true passion for flying. But I have to believe that the source of Alan's true joy was centered around his family.

Alan and I shared the same faith and I know that as one of his Father's faithful children he is now anxiously engaged in a greater work.

Alan made our world a brighter place and I know that he continues to bless the lives of others.

I remember as a college student meeting the young Alan Carver that was to date and marry my missionary companion, Janet. I've always loved Alan's quick wit and positive attitude.
I could feel the love for all people from Alan and Janet. Both of them are 2 of the most Christlike people I have ever met. Thank goodness for the knowledge of getting to see our loved ones again on the other side. What a joyous occasion that will definitely be. I love you Alan and Janet.
xoxo, Rina Rosenhan Gale
