Shalan Ray Obituary
Des Moines
Shalan DJ Ray, 31, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 from a motorcycle accident. He was born February 12, 1980 to Dennis and Wilma Ray.
Shalan attended East High School and had taken over his grandfather's plastering company, Otto's Plastering. He loved riding his Harley with his buddies. One of his passion's included helping Clem Vestal with charitable benefit rides. Shalan believed family was the core of life and spending time with his family was most important. That family showed itself at 9 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011 at the 1500 Block of East University.
Shalan is survived by his parents, Wilma Schofield and Dennis (Pam) Ray; daughters, Makayla Blair, Shianne Ray, and Emily Ray; sister, Angela (Chad) Willis; brother, Travis Ray; step-sister, Brandy Adams; step-brother, John Adams; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Ray; maternal grandmother, Vera Otto; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeremy Ray; paternal grandfather, Raymond Ray; and maternal grandfather, Lawrence Otto.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family.

I was only got to hang out with Shalan a handfull of times, but those few time I did were unforgetibly hillarious! You always brought a smile to everyones face. One time you parked your "hawg" as you called it on my cousin nikki's back portch, and to cheer me up you told me I could sit on it for a min if I promised to smile! When I found out what happened I couldn't believe it , it wouldn't fully process ..
