Jane Duffy Obituary

Jane Duffy

Beaverdale

Widely known in her Beaverdale neighborhood as the fastest & most-dedicated walker in Des Moines, Jane Ellen Duffy, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2014, while visiting with family in San Diego, CA.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Jane spent her life loving and caring for her family and many friends. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy, Des Moines, and of Duchesne College of the Sacred Heart in Omaha, NE. A member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for over 35 years, she worked tirelessly in support of her parish serving on the Eucharistic Ministry Team and the Worship & Spirituality Committee as well as assisting with special church projects.

She will be remembered warmly for giving encouragement, understanding and a listening ear to family, friends and others in need. Her generosity continued even at the end of her earthly life when her wish to be an organ donor was fulfilled.

Jane was the daughter of the late Paul and Vera Farley and sister of the late Patrick J. Farley. She is survived by her husband, James E. Duffy; by two sons: Brian Duffy (Nancy) of Seattle, WA and Brice Duffy (Nadine Lujan) of Minneapolis, MN; by three grandchildren: Bridget, Maggie & Jack Duffy of Seattle, WA; by her brother, John Farley of Huntsville, AL and by three sisters: Kate Haluska of Omaha, NE; Mary Gramling of Atlanta, GA and Jill Brosnahan (Roger) of San Miguel de Allende, Gto, Mexico. Other surviving family members include: her brothers-in-law Thomas Duffy (Jane) of Minneapolis, MN and Michael Duffy (Chick) of Des Moines; two honorary grandsons: Caleb & Nate Rea of Des Moines, and 28 nieces & nephews.

Family will receive visitors 4-6 p.m. with a prayer service following on Friday, July 25 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2926 Beaver Ave., Des Moines. The Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity. At the conclusion of Mass a reception will be held at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church Hall, 4600 Meredith Dr., Des Moines.

Jim, "Duff", and Brice -

Shocked to hear about you unexpected loss - we send our sincere condolences to your families.

I was telling my mom about Jane's passing and we were reminiscing about college. I was telling her about how Jane would send Duff a card nearly EVERYDAY in college – she said I was “just jealous” – and she is probably right! We were glad to see and spend time with Jane and the family a couple of years ago at the Cubs game in Des Moines; she hadn't changed in 20 years. It was neat to see her doting on her grandkids.

Again, condolences for your loss – our thoughts and prayers are with your families.

She was a real lady....I hadn't seen her in several years, but was so happy to spend some time with her last October...she was still the same lovely person she had always been. God and his angels are lucky to have her.
