This is very sad news - he sparked my love in neurobiology as a student of his in 1994 at the university of Dallas - he was loved by his students, and passionate about science - with a quirky sense of humor.

To his wife and his brother,
This entry is 10 years too late, but I just learned of Bill's passing. I was a best friend of Bill's in college at Kenyon from 1973-1976. We were Chemistry majors together where he was also into Philosophy. He would spend hours at the Chemistry library reading about the unethical synthesis and production of biochemical agents of war, commenting how he could not grasp the depth of our sinister humanity. He truly cared and was always thoughtful in his quiet and unassuming way. He frequently played his valve trombone, and I remember he had told me that he had played with Woody Herman. I am so sad that he is no longer here. I last spoke to him maybe in 2001, and he seemed happy. I told him I would get back to him and I never did. Makes me so sad. Again, my deepest condolences.

Bill was a valued colleague at St. Andrews Presbyterian College. He made significant contributions both in the classroom and beyond. As a music faculty person, I always enjoyed coming into our building to the sound of Bill warming up and practicing his Bass Trumpet. I had never even heard of the instrument before Bill introduced me to it. I also deeply appreciated his generosity in playing for the student production of “The Threepenny Opera” in the Spring of 2009.
Bill was a quiet and gentle soul who made a significant impact on his students and his colleagues. His contributions were significant and his influence widely felt. We were sorry to see him leave St. Andrews in May 2010, but fully understood his desire to move back to the Dallas area to be with his wife Son. I hope that all of you are comforted knowing that Bill’s legacy will live on in the hearts, minds, and futures of all who knew him.

Dr. Germann was a wonderful professor, putting great time and effort into helping his students. I was in many of his classes in the biology departmetn at the University of Dallas, and am shocked and saddened to hear this news.-Alana
