Alexander HORVATH Obituary

Alexander Horvath Sept. 10, 1953 ~ June 20, 2010 Resident of Concord Alexander Horvath died after a 3 year long battle with cancer. He was a native of Budapest, Hungary, aged 56 years. Alex immigrated to the United States in 1974. He was involved in the restaurant business throughout his life, and was the chef/owner of the Express Caf‚ in Lafayette for over 20 years. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Terri Horvath; daughters, Lisa and Sarah; son, Edward; and sister, Iren Bukovai of Hungary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Church, 1650 Ygnacio Valley Road, Walnut Creek on Thursday, June 24, 2010 commencing at 10am. Private inurnment. Dear Terri,
Maura emailed me about Alex's death while I was on vacation. Ironically, he died the day we were in Montreal, one of your former residences. I have thought of you often since then and look forward to returning to work with you. I hope that Maura, Jen, and I can be your other family to help you thru these times. With love in my heart,

For many years we were Alex's customers at the Express Cafe. It was always a pleasure to visit and enjoy his "specials", particularly in October when he made Oktoberfest dishes reminiscent of European fare. In fact Alex made me my own special plate which we named the "Barbara Plate". All I would have to do is ask for it and he knew what to do. We were very sad when he told us his diagnosis because we knew he had had pain and had been prevented from skiing--which was a disappointment. We missed him after he closed the restaurant and will continue to do so. We send our condolences to you, Terri, and your kids and family. Terri and family;
We were so sorry to hear of Alex's passing. I was always impressed by his strength and ability to give it the good fight. We will miss his visits at the cabin and Labor Day weekend will always be a special reminder of Alex and the good times.
